The men's qualification for the Olympic basketball tournament took place from 2019 to 2021; all five FIBA (International Basketball Federation) zones were expected to have representation in the Olympic basketball event. (The Olympics was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Japan as host qualified directly. The first qualifying tournament was the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in which seven teams qualified for the Olympics. Basketball at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan was held from 24 July to 8 August 2021. The basketball competitions were held at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, while the 3x3 competitions were held at the temporary Aomi Urban Sports Park in Tokyo. FIBA World Ranking
The FIBA Men's World Ranking are FIBA's rankings of national basketball teams. FIBA ranks both men's and women's national teams for both senior and junior competitions. It also publishes combined rankings for all mixed-sex competitions. Not included are the rankings for three-on-three competitions, which are tabulated for individual players. Calculation Only FIBA tournaments consisting of full five-a-side teams are used in calculations for the rankings. Other tournaments, such as regional championships, invitationals, three-on-three half-court basketball, and friendlies are not included. 2020 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments
The 2020 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments were the four basketball tournaments that were contested by 23 national teams, where the top teams earned a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics basketball tournament. They were originally scheduled to take place from 23 to 28 June 2020 but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 29 June to 4 July 2021.
