Bar Councils In Pakistan
The seven Bar Councils in Pakistan came into being as a result of enactment of Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973. These Bar Councils regulate legal professionals across provincial, territorial and national level. Pakistan Bar Council
The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) ( ur, ) was established by the Parliament in 1973 under the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act. It is the highest elected body of lawyers in Pakistan. It has twenty two members elected from across the country representing each province. The members of the Pakistan Bar Council are elected on the basis of a single transferable vote by the members of the Provincial Bar Councils (i.e., Punjab Bar Council, Sindh Bar Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Balochistan Bar Council and Islamabad Bar Council). Punjab Bar Council
The Punjab Bar Council ( ur, ) is a deliberative assembly of lawyers in Punjab. It is established by Parliament of Pakistan and consists of 75 members elected from different constituencies of Punjab. Its main functions are to promote and suggest law reforms, to safeguard the rights, interests and privileges of practicing lawyers while regulating their conduct, to recognize or derecognize Bar associations and to help in the administration of justice. Punjab Bar Council also sends one of its Member to Judicial Commission of Pakistan, who gives advice and vote for the appointment of Lahore High Court Judges. The council is the largest Provincial Bar Council in Pakistan with more than 100,000 advocates as its License holders. All Bar associations of Punjab including Tehsil Bar Associations, District Bar Associations and High Court Bar Associations work under the Jurisdiction of Punjab Bar Council. Sindh Bar Council
The Sindh Bar Council is a statutory regulatory body of lawyers in Sindh for safeguarding the rights, interests, rights and privileges of practicing lawyers, within the province of Sindh, Pakistan. The Council is a deliberative body which regulates the conduct of lawyers and helps in the administration of justice. It has been constituted under Section 3(ii) of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973. All advocates practicing in any court or tribunal in Sindh are licensed and regulated by the Council. Advocates licensed and regulated by other provincial bar councils can also practice in Sindh. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council also known as KP Bar Council is a statutory & deliberative assembly of lawyers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for safeguarding the rights, interests and privileges of practicing lawyers, within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The Council also works on regulating the conduct of lawyers and helping them in the administration of justice. It came into being as a result of the promulgation of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973 (Act XXXV of 1973). The Council commenced functioning with effect on 1 January 1974. All lower court and Peshawar High Court lawyers within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are licensed with this council. The Balochistan Bar Council is a statutory & deliberative assembly of lawyers in Balochistan for safeguarding the rights, interests and privileges of practicing lawyers, within Balochistan province of Pakistan. The Council also regulates the conduct of lawyers and helps in the administration of justice. It has been constituted by Section 3(ii) of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973 of Constitution of Pakistan. Islamabad Bar Council
The Islamabad Bar Council is a statutory & deliberative assembly of lawyers in Islamabad Capital Territory for safeguarding the rights, interests and privileges of practicing lawyers, within Islamabad Capital Territory of Pakistan. The Council also regulates the conduct of lawyers and helps in the administration of justice. It has been constituted in 2014 after addition of Section 3(1)(iii) into the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act, 1973 and became functional on 23 May 2015 after its first election.
