The Spanish and Mexican governments made many concessions and land grants in Alta California (now known as California) and Baja California from 1775 to 1846. The Spanish Concessions of land were made to retired soldiers as an inducement for them to remain in the frontier. These Concessions reverted to the Spanish crown upon the death of the recipient. The Mexican government later encouraged settlement by issuing much larger land grants to both native-born and naturalized Mexican citizens. Rancho Las Baulines
Rancho Las Baulines was a Mexican land grant in present-day Marin County, California, given in 1846 by Governor Pío Pico to Gregorio Briones. The grant extended around Bolinas Lagoon and encompassed present-day Stinson Beach and Bolinas. History Gregorio Briones (1797-1863) born in Monterey, was the son of Marcos Briones who accompanied Junípero Serra in 1769. In 1819 Gregorio entered the army and remained in it for eleven years. In 1822 he married Maria Ramona Garcia (1803-), the sister of Rafael Garcia of Rancho Tomales y Baulines. Briones' sister, Juana Briones de Miranda, owned Rancho La Purísima Concepción. Gregorio Briones served as alcalde of San Jose in 1830, Pinole 1832-1837 and San Mateo 1837-1839. Stinson Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Marin County, California, on the west coast of the United States. Stinson Beach is located east-southeast of Bolinas, at an elevation of . The population of the Stinson Beach CDP was 541 at the 2020 census. Stinson Beach is about a 35-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge on California's Highway 1. It is near important attractions such as Muir Woods National Monument, Muir Beach, and Mount Tamalpais. Coast Miwok are an indigenous people that was the second-largest group of Miwok people. Coast Miwok inhabited the general area of modern Marin County and southern Sonoma County in Northern California, from the Golden Gate north to Duncans Point and eastward to Sonoma Creek.
