''Babylon 5'' is an American science fiction television series created, produced and largely written by J. Michael Straczynski. The show centers on the Babylon 5 space station: a focal point for politics, diplomacy, and conflict during the years 2257–2262. With its prominent use of planned story arcs, the series was often described as a "novel for television". The pilot film premiered on February 22, 1993. The regular series aired from January 26, 1994, and ran for five full seasons. Due to Warner corporate structure and policy concerning syndication in general, and syndication of properties produced by the defunct PTEN division in particular, the show has been syndicated only briefly, and did not appear on U.S. television from 2003 through 2018 (though it has aired in other countries). Babylon ( ) was an ancient city located on the lower Euphrates river in southern Mesopotamia, within modern-day Hillah, Iraq, about south of modern-day Baghdad. Babylon functioned as the main cultural and political centre of the Akkadian language, Akkadian-speaking region of Babylonia. Fratricide (; – the assimilated root of 'to kill, cut down') is the act of killing one's own brother. It can either be done directly or via the use of either a hired or an indoctrinated intermediary (an assassin). The victim need not be the perpetrator's biological brother. In a military context, fratricide refers to a service member killing a comrade. The term is often used metaphorically to refer to civil wars. "And the Sky Full of Stars" is the eighth episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. It first aired on 16 March 1994. Title The episode title is derived from a line from ''Babylon 5s pilot episode: "…and the sky was full of stars, and every star was an exploding ship — one of ours." Plot Two men meet aboard Babylon 5, and prepare a device. They gain the help of Benson, a security officer, who provides them with a power cell in exchange for paying off illegal gambling debts he owes. That night the two men abduct Commander Sinclair and use the device on him. Sinclair finds that he is trapped within a virtual reality illusionary environment, in which one of his captors demands to know what happened to him at the Battle of the Line, the final battle in the Earth-Minbari war ten years earlier. "The War Prayer" is the seventh episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. It first aired on 9 March 1994. The episode deals with a string of anti-alien attacks on Babylon 5, and the arrival of Malcolm Biggs, who formerly had romantic ties with Lt Commander Ivanova, and who is involved with the anti-alien Home Guard movement. Plot A string of attacks on aliens has occurred on Babylon 5, the latest being the stabbing and branding of a Minbari poet, Shaal Mayan. Mind War
"Mind War" is the sixth episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. The episode deals with the arrival on the station of a telekinetically-enhanced fugitive telepath fleeing from Psi Corps experimentation, and introduces the Psi Cop Alfred Bester, who leads the manhunt. Plot Jason Ironheart, Talia Winters' old instructor at Psi-Corps, arrives at Babylon 5, having recently evaded capture. Psi-Corps agents Alfred Bester and his assistant Kelsey arrive shortly thereafter, and meet with Sinclair, Ivanova, and Winters, warning them that Ironheart is aboard and they need to perform a manhunt for them. "The Parliament of Dreams" is the fifth episode of the first season of the Science fiction on television, science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. It covers an attempt to assassinate the Narn ambassador G'Kar, and the station crew's hosting of a week-long festival of religious traditions of different races, organized by the Earth Alliance. The ''Babylon 5'' makeup team won an Emmy Award for the special alien prosthetic design for this episode. Title The original title of the episode was "Carnival", being later changed to "The Parliament of Dreams". The title refers to the festival of religious and cultural practices held on the station. "Infection" is the fourth episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. "Infection" was the first script written for a regular ''Babylon 5'' episode, and involves the arrival aboard the station of an extremely powerful ancient bio-weapon created by the Ikarrans, a long-extinct alien race. Plot Dr Vance Hendricks, a former college lecturer of Dr Franklin, visits him while he is checking on the cause of recent death of a Babylon 5 customs worker. Hendricks tells Franklin that while excavating the long-dead planet Ikarra VII for the corporation Interplanetary Expeditions, they had come across some artifacts that they determined were organic in nature, and something that humanity has been trying to develop themselves. Larry DiTillio
Lawrence G. DiTillio (February 15, 1948 – March 16, 2019) was an American film, TV series, and tabletop role-playing game writer. His creations include ''He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword'' and the award-winning '' Masks of Nyarlathotep''. Education Larry DiTillio attended the film school at New York University for four years. He then spent an additional two years at UCLA's film school. Career After graduating, DiTillio decided to make a career as a Hollywood writer. He knocked on agency doors until he found an agent willing and able to find him work as a film writer. DiTillio wrote for both television and movies in the 1970s, including a stint on Filmation's '' Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids''. "Born to the Purple" is the third episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. "Soul Hunter" is the second episode of the first season of the science fiction television series, ''Babylon 5''. The episode concerns the arrival of a member of an ancient order, the Soul Hunters, on the Babylon 5 station; and reveals a mystery surrounding Commander Sinclair's missing 24 hours during the Earth-Minbari War.
