York Lions Stadium
York Lions Stadium is an outdoor sports stadium on the Keele Campus of Toronto's York University in the former city of North York. It is home to the York Lions, the varsity teams of York University, the Toronto Arrows of Major League Rugby and York United of the Canadian Premier League. The facility was primarily built for the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games, where it hosted track and field events and the opening ceremony. In 2021, the stadium's running track was removed to expand the playing surface used for football and soccer. History Initial plans had a multi-purpose athletics and soccer stadium to be built somewhere in the vicinity of Hamilton, Ontario; however, the final plans separated the soccer and athletics venues. Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". Josiah Jamison
Josiah Jamison (born August 18, 1982) is a visually impaired American sprint runner. He has retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary eye disease that affects peripheral and night vision. He began racing at the Spartanburg, South Carolina#Public and private schools, South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg and won a gold medal for the United States at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in the Athletics at the 2008 Summer Paralympics – Men's 100 metres T12, 100 m T12 event. He also competed at the United States at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, 2012 Summer Paralympics, but was disqualified in both the 100 m and 200 m heats for violating a newly implemented rule that a guide may not separate from the runner farther than 50 cm; his 4 × 100 m relay team also failed to finish at those Paralympics. Leinier Savon Pineda
Leinier Savón Pineda (born 21 March 1989) is a Cuban visually impaired sprinter and long jumper. He made his international debut in 2014 and earned two gold medals in the 2016 Summer Paralympics. He is the cousin of heavyweight boxer Félix Savón. Early life Savon Pineda was born visually impaired but was unable to be officially diagnosed until he was more than a year old. During the wait, his mother enrolled him in a sports area but was unable to enter the School of Sports Initiation due to his height. As well, after finishing high school he was unable to enlist due to his visual impairment. Career Savon Pineda joined the Cuban national team in 2012, with whom he won the men's 100m and 200m T12 at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships and the men's 100m and 200m T12 at the 2015 Parapan American Games. Club Throw
The club throw is an athletic throwing event where the objective is to throw a wooden club. The event is one of the four throwing events, along with discus, javelin and shot put of the Summer Paralympics. It is the Paralympic equivalent of the hammer throw. The club throw was introduced for both men and women at the first 1960 Summer Paralympic Games. It was dropped from the women's programme from the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona but was reinstated for London 2012.
