Aroania
Aroania ( el, Αροάνια) is a village and a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kalavryta, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 173.804 km2. The population is 1,619 (2011 census). The seat of administration was in the town Psofida. The municipality is named after the village and the mountain. Aroania (mountain)
Aroania ( el, Αροάνια), also known as Helmos or Chelmos (Χελμός, from South Slavic , "summit"), is a mountain range in Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. At 2,355 m elevation, Aroania is the third highest mountain of the Peloponnese, after Taygetus and Kyllini, and the highest in Achaea. The largest town near the mountain is Kalavryta. The municipal unit Aroania took its name from the mountain. Geography Aroania is situated in southeastern Achaea, near the border with Corinthia. The slightly higher Kyllini mountain is about 15 km to its east, separated from Aroania by the valley of the river Olvios. The mountain Erymanthos is about 30 km to the west, across the valley of the river Vouraikos. The rivers Krios, Krathis and Vouraikos drain the mountain towards the Gulf of Corinth in the north. Achaea
Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast. The Gulf of Corinth lies to its northeast, and the Gulf of Patras to its northwest. The mountain Panachaiko (1926 m), though not the highest of Achaea, dominates the coastal area near Patras. Seires (Greek: Σειρές, before 1928: Βερσίτσι - ''Versitsi'') is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. It was named after the ancient town Seirae, that was part of Arcadia (regional unit), Arcadian Arcadian Azania, Azania. In 2011, it had a population of 76 for the village and 263 for the community, which includes the villages Agioi Theodoroi, Agios Georgios, Krini and Thomaiika. Livartzi
Livartzi ( el, Λιβάρτζι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 164 for the village and 211 for the municipal district, which includes the villages Livadi and Livartzino. Livartzi is situated at 850 m above sea level, in the southeastern foothills of Mount Erymanthos. It is 4 km southwest of Lechouri, 6 km north of Psofida and 21 km southwest of Kalavryta. It is not known when Livartzi was founded, but it existed before the Ottoman rule. In the 19th century, refugees from Mystras settled the area and the population rose to around 3,000 people. Kalavryta
Kalavryta ( el, Καλάβρυτα) is a town and a municipality in the mountainous east-central part of the regional unit of Achaea, Greece. The town is located on the right bank of the river Vouraikos, south of Aigio, southeast of Patras and northwest of Tripoli. Notable mountains in the municipality are Mount Erymanthos in the west and Aroania or Chelmos in the southeast. Lechouri ( el, Λεχούρι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 209 for the village and 288 for the community, which includes the villages Kerasia and Selli. The village is situated at about 1,000 m above sea level, near the mountain Kallifoni, which is part of the Erymanthos range. It is 4 km northeast of Livartzi, 6 km south of Ano Vlasia, 4 km northwest of Kamenianoi and 18 km southwest of Kalavryta. Population History Historian G. Kamenianoi ( el, Καμενιάνοι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. In 2011 the population was 85 for the village, and 116 for the community, which includes the village Drovolovo. It is situated in the eastern foothills of Mount Erymanthos. Kamenianoi is 2 km west of Desino, 4 km southeast of Lechouri and 17 km southwest of Kalavryta. Population History The name comes from the multitude of furnaces that existed here in the past.
