Archery At The 2012 Summer Paralympics
Archery at the 2012 Summer Paralympics consisted of nine events, five for men and four for women. The competitions were held at the Royal Artillery Barracks from 30 August to 5 September 2012. Classification Archers were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed archers to compete against others with a similar level of function. Royal Artillery Barracks
Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, is a barracks of the British Army which forms part of Woolwich Garrison. The Royal Regiment of Artillery had its headquarters here from 1776 until 2007, when it was moved to Larkhill Garrison. History In 1716 two permanent field companies of Artillery (each of a hundred men) were formed by royal Warrant and placed under the command of the Master-General of the Ordnance. They were initially quartered in the Warren, about half a mile from the current barracks site. By 1771 the Royal Regiment of Artillery numbered over 2,400, over a third of whom were usually quartered in Woolwich. Carl Gustav Jung ( ; ; 26 July 1875 – 6 June 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Zahra Nemati
Zahra Nemati ( fa, زهرا نعمتی, born 30 April 1985) is an Iranian Paralympic and Olympic archer. She originally competed in taekwondo before she was paralyzed in a car accident. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics she won two medals, an individual gold and team bronze. She has qualified to compete at both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Paralympics. She was the flag bearer at the 2016 Olympics and the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo where she shared the honour with thrower Nourmohammad Arekhi. Personal life Nemati was born in Kerman, Iran. In 2003, she was injured in a car accident, leaving her with spinal injuries and paralysis of both legs. Milena Olszewska
Milena Magdalena Olszewska (born 21 May 1984) is a Polish Paralympic archer. She has won two Paralympic bronze medals. Biography Milena Olszewska was born with underdevelopment of her right leg, and at the age of 15 the leg was amputated. She completed her pedagogical studies at the State Higher Vocational School in Gorzow Wielkopolski and was employed in the office of the Gorzów Disability Sport "Start". In 2007 she began training in archery, trained by Alicja Bukańska and coached by Ryszard Bukański. In 2009 she debuted at the World Para-Archery Championships, occupying 5th place in the team. Mel Clarke
Mel Clarke (born 2 September 1982) is an English competitive archer. Personal life Clarke was born on 2 September 1982 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Since the age of 11 she has used a wheelchair because of an arthritic condition. In 2003 Lyme disease caused her to lose sight in one eye. Archery Clarke first tried archery as a member of the Girl Guides in 1998. She took part in her first international competition in 2002. In 2003, she became the first disabled archer from Europe to take part in an able-bodied event at international level, however it was during this event that she contracted Lyme disease. She lost sight in her aiming eye and had to remodel her shooting style to compensate, developing a stance with her head tilted back to make best use of her working eye.
