Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, he had a political career that spanned almost half a century. Macdonald was born in Scotland; when he was a boy his family immigrated to Kingston in the Province of Upper Canada (today in eastern Ontario). As a lawyer, he was involved in several high-profile cases and quickly became prominent in Kingston, which elected him in 1844 to the legislature of the Province of Canada. By 1857, he had become premier under the colony's unstable political system. Gordon Gray III
Gordon Gray III (born 1956) is a professor of practice at Penn State's School of International Affairs. He is a retired United States Foreign Service Officer and former career member of the Senior Foreign Service who attained the rank of minister-counselor. He joined the faculty of the National War College in July 2012 and held the positions of deputy commandant and international affairs advisor from June 2014 to June 2015. He was the U.S. ambassador to Tunisia, having been sworn in on August 20, 2009, after his appointment to the position by President Barack Obama, and served until July 5, 2012. Rust Macpherson Deming
Rust Macpherson Deming (born October 11, 1941) is a professor and retired American diplomat. He was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States to Japan from 1993 to 1996 and Ambassador of the United States to Tunisia from 2011 to 2013. Early life Deming, a great-great-grandson of Nathaniel Hawthorne, was born in 1941 to father Olcott Deming, the first U.S. ambassador to Uganda, and mother Louis Macpherson on October 11, 1941, in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Rollins College in 1964, and earned a master's degree in East Asian Studies from Stanford University in 1981. He is married to Kristen Deming, and has three daughters and seven grandchildren, with his eldest granddaughter currently attending Princeton University. Robin Lynn Raphel (born 1947) is an American former diplomat, ambassador, CIA analyst, lobbyist, and an expert on Pakistan affairs. In 1993, she was appointed by President Bill Clinton as the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs. She later served as U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia from November 7, 1997 to August 6, 2000, during Clinton's second term in office. In the 2000s, Raphel held a number of South Asia-related diplomatic positions. She retired from the State Department in 2005 after 30 years of service. After retirement, Raphel was hired to head the global affairs and trade group of Cassidy & Associates, a DC lobbying firm. Mary Ann Casey (born November 11, 1949) is an American retired diplomat who was a career Foreign Service Officer and U.S. Ambassador to Algeria (1991–1994) and Tunisia (1994–1997). Life and career Casey was born in Boulder, Colorado on November 11, 1949. She graduated with a degree in international relations from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1970, and spent most of her overseas career in northern Africa. Walter Leon Cutler (born November 25, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an international consultant and advisor, with a focus on the Middle East, and a former U.S. Ambassador.
