History The school district was founded in February 1908 with students initially attending school in a converted barn on Brighton street. In December 1908, the district completed construction of its first building, Albany School, on Solano Avenue between Cornell and Talbot. Albany built its first high school in the 1930s. In 1944, the Federal Housing Authority built Codonices Elementary School for children of war workers living in Codonices Village. Albany, California
Albany ( ) is a city on the east shore of San Francisco Bay in northwestern Alameda County, California. The population was 20,271 at the 2020 census. History In 1908, a group of local women protested the dumping of Berkeley garbage in their community. Armed with two shotguns and a twenty-two-caliber rifle, they confronted the drivers of the wagons near what is now the corner of San Pablo Avenue and Buchanan Street. The women told the drivers of the horse-drawn garbage wagons to go home, which they did quickly and without complaint. Shortly thereafter, the residents of the town voted to incorporate as the City of Ocean View. In 1909, voters changed the name of the city, primarily to distinguish the city from the adjacent section of Berkeley which had previously been named Ocean View. Albany High School (AHS) is a comprehensive public high school located in Albany, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. The school educates approximately 1,300 students from grades 9 through 12. Achievements In 2001, Albany was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for the maximum term of six years. Albany High School was #756 nationally ranked in 2016, and #119 among California high schools. The school is known for its athletic, science, math, and music programs. Music programs The music program at the school serves approximately 250 students and supports choral, orchestral, concert band, and jazz programs.
