Al-Riffa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الرفاع الرياضي) is a Bahraini professional football club based in Riffa, that competes in the Bahraini Premier League, the top flight of Bahraini football. The club was founded in 1953. History The club was founded in 1953 under the name of West Riffa Sports Club. In 2001, the club changed the name to Al-Riffa Sports Club. Stadium Riffa use Bahrain National Stadium as their home ground, which has a capacity of nearly 24,000 spectators. Achievements The club's first international achievement was in 1982 when Riffa placed second in the GCC Club Cup. This was an important achievement for the club and Bahraini football in general as it helped the region take notice of the talent available in Bahrain. Eelco Schattorie
Eelco Schattorie (born 18 December 1971) is a Dutch football manager. Career Born in Swalmen, Schattorie started as a youth and assistant coach, later becoming the caretaker manager and finally Technical Director for Youth Development with Dutch club VVV-Venlo. In 1996 he served as the club's head coach on a caretaker basis for four matches in 1996 after former head coach, Jan Versleijen, left the club. During his 3 league games and single cup game in charge, he earned the unusual record of being the club's only undefeated coach in history, an achievement he still retains. Dragan Talajić (born 25 August 1965) is a Croatian former footballer who is the technical director of the Bahrain Football Association. Matheus Wilhelmus Theodorus "Theo" Laseroms (8 March 1940 – 25 April 1991) was a Dutch football defender who made a name for himself when he played for Feijenoord. He gained six caps for the Netherlands national team. Club career Laseroms, nicknamed ''De Tank'' or ''Theo de Tank'', was famous for his sliding tackle. His career had started in 1956 at RBC, followed in 1958 by NAC. In 1963, he switched to Sparta, with whom he won the KNVB Cup in 1966. In 1967, Laseroms signed with the Pittsburgh Phantoms of the newly created National Professional Soccer League while still under contract with Sparta Rotterdam. Sparta sued Pittsburgh in both the United States and the Netherlands and received $50,000 from the Phantoms. 2022 AFC Cup
The 2022 AFC Cup was the 19th edition of the AFC Cup, Asia's secondary club football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This season was the last in an all-year-round (spring-to-autumn) schedule; from 2023 the competition was switched to an autumn-to-spring schedule. Bahraini club Al-Muharraq were the title holders, having won their second AFC Cup title in 2021. As they failed to obtain the AFC license, they did not defend their title. The 2014 AFC Cup was the 11th edition of the AFC Cup, a football competition organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for clubs from "developing countries" in Asia. The AFC Cup is an annual continental club football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Under its current rules, the competition is played primarily between clubs from nations that did not receive direct qualifying slots in the top-tier AFC Champions League, based on the AFC Club Competitions Ranking.
