Afro-Polish History
Africans in Poland, also known as Afro-Poles or Afro-Polish ( pl, Afropolacy), are citizens or residents of Poland who are of African descent. As of 2023, among European countries, the proportion of people from Africa is one of the lowest. History The origins of the Afro-Polish community are rooted in educational immigration to the Polish People's Republic. The Communist government strongly supported anti-colonial movements in Africa as part of broader Soviet policy. From the 1950s to the 1980s, many Africans emigrated to Poland to pursue their educations. While most African students in Poland returned to their countries of origin, many decided to remain in Poland and acquire citizenship. The contemporary Afro-Polish community is composed of many of these Africans and their descendants. In 1955, the 5th World Festival of Youth and Students was held in Warsaw. Łódź Voivodeship
Łódź Voivodeship (also known as Lodz Province, or by its Polish name ''Województwo łódzkie'' ) is a province-voivodeship in central Poland. It was created on 1 January 1999 out of the former Łódź Voivodeship (1975–1999) and the Sieradz, Piotrków Trybunalski and Skierniewice Voivodeships and part of Płock Voivodeship, pursuant to the Polish local government reforms adopted in 1998. The province is named after its capital and largest city, Łódź, pronounced . Łódź Voivodeship is bordered by six other voivodeships: Masovian to the north and east, Świętokrzyskie to the south-east, Silesian to the south, Opole to the south-west, Greater Poland to the west, and Kuyavian-Pomeranian for a short stretch to the north. World Federation Of Democratic Youth
The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) is an international youth organization, and has historically characterized itself as left-wing and anti-imperialist. WFDY was founded in London in 1945 as a broad international youth movement, organized in the context of the end of World War II with the aim of uniting youth from the Allies behind an anti-fascist platform that was broadly pro-peace, anti-nuclear war, expressing friendship between youth of the capitalist and socialist nations. The WFDY Headquarters are in Budapest, Hungary. The main event of WFDY is the World Festival of Youth and Students. The last festival was held in Sochi, Russia, in October 2017. Killion Munyama
Killion Munzele Munyama (born 10 July 1961) is a Polish economist, academic lecturer and politician of the Civic Platform (PO) who served as a member of the Polish Parliament from 2011 until 2021. Early life and education Munyama was born in Monze, Zambia. Later his family moved to Mumbwa and then to Mkushi where Munyama grew up on a farm. He came to Poland on a scholarship in 1981 to study International Finance. Munyama has stated that initially he planned on returning to Zambia after graduation, as he saw no opportunities for academics in communist Poland. However, after the fall of Communism in Poland he changed his mind as he saw an opportunity for improvement and a "chance to rid (the country) of the grey reality of communism". Ifi Ude
Diana Ifeoma Ude (born 1986 in Enugu, Nigeria) is a Polish singer. She is the daughter of a Polish mother and a Nigerian father of the Igbo tribe. She came to Poland at the age of three, where she lived with her maternal grandmother in Opole. She studied culture at Warsaw University. She was one of the ten participants in the Polish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, performing the song "Love is Stronger". With 16 points, she came in the 4th place. Aleksandra "Ola" Szwed (born 8 August 1990 in Warsaw, Poland) is a Polish actress and singer of Polish and Nigerian ethnicity. She was a popular child actress, starring regularly since 1999 in ''Rodzina zastępcza'' (''Foster Family'') television series, modified and renamed in 2004 to ''Rodzina zastępcza plus'' (''Foster Family and Others''). Omar Sangare
Omar Sangare (born 14 November 1970, Stalowa Wola) is a Poles, Polish United States, American actor, academic, poet, and theatre director. He graduated from The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw, where he studied with the Academy Award, Oscar-winning director Andrzej Wajda. In 1994 he was awarded a scholarship to The British American Drama Academy in Oxford, England, where he worked with, among others, Michael Kahn (theatre director), Michael Kahn, Jeremy Irons, Sir Derek Jacobi, and the now-deceased Alan Rickman. Omar Sangare is one of most influential people in theatre today. In 2006, he earned his Ph.D. from the Theater Academy in Warsaw. Mamadou Diouf (musician)
Mamadou Diouf is a Senegalese musician and writer. Since 2007, he also holds Polish citizenship. Education Diouf trained as a veterinarian. He first came to Poland in 1983 to study Polish on a language course in Łódź. He then moved to Warsaw, where he experienced racial abuse, including physical attacks "in broad daylight".
