Charles Adeane
Charles Robert Whorwood Adeane (2 November 1863 – 11 February 1943) was a British army officer. Background Adeane was the only son of the politician Henry John Adeane and his wife Lady Elizabeth Philippa Yorke, eldest daughter of Charles Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke. Adeane was educated at Eton College and at Christ Church, Oxford. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University of Cambridge. Career He served in the British Army and was lieutenant of the 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. During this time Adeane was decorated with the Order of St Sava of Serbia. After his retirement he became Honorary Colonel of the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Regiment. Adeane was justice of the peace and Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire from 1915 until his death in 1943. Edward Adeane
The Hon. George Edward Adeane (4 October 1939 – 20 May 2015) was an English barrister and royal advisor who served as Private Secretary to the Prince of Wales from 1979 to 1985. Early years and education Adeane was born in 1939, the son of Michael Adeane (created a life peer as Baron Adeane in 1972) and Helen Chetwynd-Stapylton, the daughter of Richard Chetwynd-Stapylton. The family had a long history of service to the royal family. His maternal great-grandfather was Arthur Bigge, later Lord Stamfordham, private secretary to Queen Victoria and King George V. Admiral Edward Stanley Adeane, (7 December 1836 – 18 October 1902) was a British Royal Navy admiral at the end of the 19th century. Background Adeane was born in 1836, the younger son of politician and Member of Parliament Henry John Adeane, of Babraham, Cambridgeshire, by his wife Honourable Matilda Abigail Stanley, daughter of John Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley of Alderley. His elder brother Henry John Adeane (1833–1870) also served as a Member of Parliament. The Adeane family were landed gentry, tracing their ancestry to a Simon Adeane who died in 1686. Navy career Adeane entered the Royal Navy in 1850, and was a midshipman on board in the Baltic Sea during the Crimean War. Henry John Adeane DL (18 June 1789 – 11 May 1847) was an English barrister and politician. Early life and education Adeane was the second but first surviving son of Robert Jones Adeane of Babraham, Cambridgeshire, and Annabella Blake, daughter of Sir Patrick Blake, 1st Baronet, of Langham Hall, Suffolk. Henry John Adeane (1833–1870)
Henry John Adeane (9 June 1833 – 17 February 1870) was a British Liberal and Whig politician. The son of his namesake Henry John Adeane (MP for Cambridgeshire from 1830 to 1832) and Matilda Abigail née Stanley, Adeane married Lady Elizabeth Philippa Biddulph, daughter of Charles Yorke (also MP for Cambridgeshire between 1832 and 1834) and Susan née Liddell in 1860. They had at least three children: Marie Constance (died 1934); Maud (died 1943); and Charles Robert Whorwood (1863–1943). His daughter, Marie Adeane, was a Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria; she married Sir Bernard Mallet, and they had two sons, one of whom was Sir Victor Mallet, the diplomat. Adeane followed his father into politics, and was first elected Whig MP for Cambridgeshire at the 1857 general election. Becoming a Liberal in 1859, he held the seat until 1865, when he stood down. James Whorwood Adeane
James Whorwood Adeane (1740 – 15 April 1802), of Babraham, Cambridgeshire and Chalgrove, Oxfordshire, was an English Tory politician. He was the only son of Simon Adeane of Chalgrove and Mary Brydges, niece of James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos. He entered the British Army in 1755, rising to the rank of colonel of the 45th Foot in 1788, Lieut-General in 1796 and full General in 1801. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of Great Britain for Cambridge 1780 to May 1789 and for Cambridgeshire 19 May 1789 – 15 April 1802. He was appointed a Groom of the Bedchamber to King George III from 1784 to his death. He died in 1802.
