Letná
Letná is a hill overlooking Prague historic centre and Vltava River just besides Prague Castle. It neighbours Stromovka, the largest park in Prague. The hill belongs to Holešovice and Bubeneč quarters of Prague 7. The main part of Letná is Letná Plain ''()'', a large empty plain and Letná Park ''()'' popular for summer strolls and informal sports (inline skating and jogging being the most popular here). Several rock concerts took place here, Michael Jackson (1996), Rolling Stones (2003) both with an over 120,000 audience. Due to its position it used to be the venue for the largest Stalin statue in Europe. The statue was torn down in the 1960s and the Prague Metronome now occupies the site. Josef Vlastimil Burian, better known as Vlasta Burian, (9 April 1891, in Liberec – 31 January 1962, in Prague) was an internationally renowned Czechoslovak film and stage actor, singer, comedian, footballer and film director. In the Czech Republic, he is known as Král komiků (King of Comedians). Biography He is well known in the Czech Republic for his comic roles in many movies before and during World War II. His films are still shown regularly on Czech television, being particularly popular around Christmas time. He ran a popular comic theater until 1944, when the Nazis closed down all Czech-language theaters. After the war Burian was charged and convicted of collaboration with the Nazis. He was briefly imprisoned, and then not permitted to return to the stage until 1950. He was officially exonerated of all charges in 1994. The 1934 FIFA World Cup was the second edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. It took place in Italy from 27 May to 10 June 1934. The 1934 World Cup was the first in which teams had to qualify to take part. Thirty-two nations entered the competition; 16 teams would qualify for the final tournament. Oldřich Nejedlý (26 December 1909 – 11 June 1990) was a Czechs, Czech Association football, footballer, who spent his entire professional career at Sparta Prague as an Forward (association football)#Inside forward, inside-forward.
