EFL Championship
The English Football League Championship (often referred to as the Championship for short or the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship purposes) is the highest division of the English Football League (EFL) and second-highest overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. Introduced for the 2004–05 season as the Football League Championship the division was previously known as the Football League Second Division ( 1892– 1992) and Football League First Division ( 1992– 2004). The winning club of the Championship receives the EFL Championship trophy, the same trophy that was awarded to English First Division champions from 1892 until 1992. As in other divisions of professional English football, Welsh clubs can be part of the division, making it a cross-border league. Plymouth () is a port city and unitary authority in South West England. It is located on the south coast of Devon, approximately south-west of Exeter and south-west of London. The 2023–24 EFL League One (referred to as the Sky Bet League One for sponsorship purposes) is the 20th season of the EFL League One under its current title and the 32nd season under its current league division format. The season began on 5 August 2023. On 19 May 2023, Wigan Athletic were deducted four points for salary breaches, with another four-point deduction suspended. On 26 May 2023, a further four-point deduction was imposed. On 16 August 2023, Reading were deducted one point for failing to pay players on time and in full on three occasions in the 2022–23 season. On 13 September 2023, a further three points were deducted, for failing to deposit player wages on time. The 2022–23 Premier League will be the 31st season of the Premier League, and the 124th season of top-flight English football overall. The provisional fixtures are scheduled to be released on Wednesday 15 June 2022. As of the 2022–23 season, clubs will be able to make five rather than three substitutions on three occasions during game time and at half time in line with rest of the top six European leagues, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the Eredivisie, La Liga and Serie A.
