2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup
The 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup was the 17th edition of the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, which is the main tournament for senior women's basketball national teams of the FIBA Americas. It was held from 1 to 9 July 2023 in León, Mexico. Brazil won their sixth title after a finals win over the United States. Format The ten teams were split into two groups of five teams. The top four teams per group qualified to the quarterfinals. A first-placed teams faced off against the fourth-placed team and a second-placed team against a third-placed teams. A knockout-system was used after the preliminary round. Qualification Draw The draw took place on 10 May 2023 in Miami, United States. Damiris Dantas do Amaral (born November 17, 1992) is a Brazilian basketball player. Together with the junior Brazilian team, she won the bronze medal at the Under-19 World Championship in 2011, Chile, and was named Most Valuable Player at that tournament. That same year, Dantas was also champion of the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women with the senior national team, and won a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. Waleska ( ) is a city in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The population was 644 at the 2010 census. History The first white settlement in the Waleska area began in the early 1830s. Among these first pioneer settlers were the Reinhardt, Heard and Rhyne families, who moved into the region looking for fresh, fertile farm land. Deja Kelly (born September 8, 2001) is an American college basketball player for the North Carolina Tar Heels of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). She is a three-time first-team All-ACC selection. Domo de la Feria (originally Auditorio Municipal de Leon) is a 4,463-seat indoor arena located in Leon, Guanajuato. Built in the mid-1980s, it is used primarily for basketball, and is home to the Abejas de León basketball team.
