The 2021–22 CAF Confederation Cup (officially the 2021–22 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 19th edition of Africa's secondary club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) under the current CAF Confederation Cup title after the merger of CAF Cup and African Cup Winners' Cup. The defending champions Raja Casablanca were unable to defend their title as they advanced to the group stage of the that season's CAF Champions League. The final was won by RS Berkane of Morocco 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw after 120 minutes of regulation time against Orlando Pirates and RS Berkane at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, capturing their second title in the process. COVID-19 Pandemic In Africa
The COVID-19 pandemicpandemic was confirmed to have spread to Africa on 14 February 2020, with the first confirmed case announced in Egypt. The first confirmed case in sub-Saharan Africa was announced in Nigeria at the end of February 2020. Within three months, the virus had spread throughout the continent, as Lesotho, the last African sovereign state to have remained free of the virus, reported a case on 13 May 2020. By 26 May, it appeared that most African countries were experiencing community transmission, although testing capacity was limited. Most of the identified imported cases arrived from Europe and the United States rather than from China where the virus originated. In early June 2021, Africa faced a third wave of COVID infections with cases rising in 14 countries. Aïcha Chenna
Aïcha Chenna (, also Romanized as Aïcha Ech-Chenna; 14 August 1941 – 25 September 2022) was a Moroccan social worker, women's rights advocate and activist. A registered nurse, she began working with disadvantaged women as an employee of the country's Ministry of Health. In 1985, she founded the Association Solidarité Féminine (ASF), a Casablanca-based charity that assists single mothers and victims of abuse. Chenna received various humanitarian awards for her work, including the 2009 Opus Prize (worth US$1 million). Early life and education Chenna was born in Casablanca on 14 August 1941, during the time of the French protectorate, and spent her early childhood in Marrakesh. Death Of Rayan Aourram
On 1 February 2022, five-year-old Moroccan boy Rayan Aourram (; ) fell into a dry well in Ighran village in Tamorot commune, Chefchaouen Province, Morocco. Rescue attempts were delayed by the narrow well and fragile ground. A separate trench was dug to access the bottom of the well, although when rescuers reached Aourram on 5 February it was discovered that he had died. Background The mountainous region where the accident took place is located in the vicinity of Chefchaouen, in the Rif region of Northern Morocco, a region known for cannabis cultivation, which constitutes a main income resource for many poor families. This plant requires copious amounts of water to grow, especially the imported hybrid varieties, as opposed to the local '' kif'' hashish, whose cultivation can rely solely on rainwater.
