2022 African Championships In Athletics
The 22nd African Championships in Athletics was held in Saint Pierre, Mauritius from 8 to 12 June 2022, at the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex. The event was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 in Oran, Algeria, but had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Saint Pierre, Mauritius
St. Pierre (St Peter) is a village in the district of Moka in Mauritius.It is considered to be found in the heart of Mauritius.The climatic conditions is cold and ideal especially during summer with cold breeze. The village has significantly changed over the years with a new shopping centre, namely Kendra, gyms, driving more traffic to the village. With a growing population, Saint-Pierre is gradually starting to look like a town. The bus station is situated within walking distance to the market, the Kendra shopping centre, the mosque, but a bit further from the local primary and secondary schools, which will require travellers to stop further or to get on another connecting bus. Saint Pierre has three banks, a market, numerous shops, a primary and a secondary school, a church, a mosque, two petrol stations, a couple of gyms a big shopping centre and much more. His personal best in the event is 1:43.38, set at the Meeting de Paris in June 2023. Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (born 18 September 1995) is a Kenyan middle-distance and long-distance runner. Early life Brought up in Baragoi, Samburu County, having lost his father early in life to cattle rustling, he was raised by his mother and later, grandmother. He has said that it was while at Aiyam Day secondary school a 24 km trek to the learning institution and back home would eventually make him an athlete as walking to school early in the morning and back in the evening was the most dangerous time to do the journey as they crossed bandits' battle grounds along the narrow paths to the school and even though he would set off at 5:30 am for an 8 am start at school, would sometimes be forced to take an even longer route.
