2021 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2021 World Weightlifting Championships was a weightlifting competition held from 7 to 17 December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Due to concerns about the rapid spread of Omicron variant and held shortly after Olympics and Chinese National Games, the tournament faced the absence of many strong competitors. 10 Olympic champions from Tokyo four months earlier, 15 world champion title holders, and entire teams from China, North Korea, Italy and Germany decided not to compete. Weightlifters competing at the event were exempt from the required quarantine when visiting Uzbekistan. The event was also designated the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, with places in the 2022 Commonwealth Games awarded to the best Commonwealth lifter (totals only, as per the Olympics) in each eligible division. Aniq Kasdan
Mohamad Aniq bin Kasdan is a Malaysian weightlifter. He won the silver medal in the Clean & Jerk men's 55 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He also created history by being the first Malaysian weightlifter to win a medal in the World Weightlifting Championships. Career In 2021, Aniq won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He also won a bronze medal at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi. Briken Calja (born 19 February 1990, Elbasan) is an Albanian weightlifter, Olympian, and European Champion competing in the 69 kg category until 2018 and 73 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Adkhamjon Ergashev (born 12 March 1999) is an Uzbekistani weightlifter competing in the 62 kg category until 2018, and the 61 kg and 67 kg categories starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia (born 1 April 1992) is a Colombian weightlifter, World Champion, three-time Pan American Champion and Pan American Games Champion competing in the 62 kg category until 2018 and 61 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Talha Talib (Urdu: ) (born 3 October 1999) is a Pakistani weightlifter from Gujranwala. He is the Pakistani national champion in the 62 kg category. He set a new record at the games in snatch as he lifted 132 kg in the third attempt with 127 kg and 130 kg in the first two attempts, respectively.
