2019 Formula 2 Championship
The 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship was the fifty-third season of the second-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also third season under the moniker of FIA Formula 2 Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula 2 cars that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is an open-wheel racing category that serves as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category was run in support of the 2019 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. George Russell was the reigning drivers' champion, having won the title at the final round of the 2018 championship in Abu Dhabi. Russell would drive in Formula One for Williams in 2019. Carlin were the reigning teams' champions, having secured their first Formula 2 title in Abu Dhabi. The FIA Formula 2 Championship (F2) is a second-tier single-seater championship organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Held on road racing, racing circuits, the championship was introduced in 2017, following the rebranding of the long-term Formula One feeder series GP2 Series, GP2. The series' original founders were Flavio Briatore and current managing director Bruno Michel. While it is not necessary to do so, most current F1 drivers have participated in Formula 2 or GP2 before graduating to Formula One. It is the last step on the FIA Global Pathway from Karting to Formula One. Formula 2 is designed to create an ideal training ground for life in Formula One and make racing relatively affordable for the teams. The Yas Marina Circuit (Arabic: حلبة مرسى ياس) is a 5.281 km (3.281 mi) motorsport circuit situated on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke. It has hosted the season-ending Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix since 2009. Yas Marina was the second of four Formula One tracks in the Middle East, with the first being in Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain and subsequent tracks in Losail International Circuit, Qatar and Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Saudi Arabia. The 2009 Brands Hatch Formula Two round was the fourth round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 18 and 19 July 2009 at Brands Hatch at Kent, United Kingdom. Report Race 1 The first race was won by Philipp Eng, with Andy Soucek and Henry Surtees also on the podium. Race 2 The second race was won by Andy Soucek, with Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin also on the podium. Brands Hatch is a motor racing circuit in West Kingsdown, Kent, England, United Kingdom. Originally used as a grasstrack motorcycle circuit on farmland, it hosted 12 runnings of the British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986 and currently hosts many British and International racing events. Henry Surtees
Henry John Surtees (18 February 1991 – 19 July 2009) was a British racing driver and the son of John Surtees. He died during a Formula Two race at Brands Hatch when he was struck by a wheel which came off another car which had spun into a wall. He was the son of former Formula One driver John Surtees, who won the 1964 Formula One season with Ferrari. 2019 Spa-Francorchamps FIA Formula 2 Round
The 2019 Spa-Francorchamps FIA Formula 2 round was to have been a pair of motor races that were due to be held on 31 August and 1 September 2019 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium as part of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. It was to be the ninth round of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship and run in support of the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix. The feature race was abandoned after an accident involving Anthoine Hubert, Juan Manuel Correa and Giuliano Alesi. Hubert and Correa were taken to the circuit's medical centre where Hubert died of his injuries. Correa was stabilised and transferred to a nearby hospital. Anthoine Gérard Pol Hubert (; 22 September 1996 – 31 August 2019) was a French professional racing driver. He was the 2018 GP3 Series champion and a member of the Renault Sport Academy. He died following an accident during the feature race of the 2019 Spa-Francorchamps Formula 2 round at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
