Carl Sargeant
Carl Sargeant (27 July 1968 – 7 November 2017) was a Welsh politician who was the Cabinet secretaries and ministers Secretary for Communities and Children in the Welsh Government. He represented the constituency of Alyn and Deeside in the National Assembly for Wales from 2003. Sargeant was removed from his Cabinet position and suspended from Welsh Labour on 3 November 2017 following allegations about his behaviour. He died four days later. On 11 July 2019, an inquest ruled his death a suicide. Background Sargeant was born in St Asaph, Flintshire, to Sylvia (née Hughes) and Malcolm Sargeant. Before becoming an Assembly Member, Sargeant worked as a process operator at the Warwick International Limited chemical manufacturing plant in Mostyn. He was also a quality and environmental auditor and a member of the site's Emergency Response Team. He trained as an industrial firefighter, and became a school governor of Deeside College and Ysgol Bryn Deva primary school.

Jack Sargeant (politician)
Jack Sargeant (born 1994) is a Welsh Labour Party politician serving as Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership since July 2024, and a Member of the Senedd (MS). He represents the Alyn and Deeside constituency, where he succeeded his father Carl Sargeant following the February 2018 by-election. Background Sargeant was born in Rhuddlan in 1994 and attended Connah's Quay High School. He studied for an engineering apprenticeship at Deeside College (now Coleg Cambria) before completing a degree course at Glyndŵr University in Wrexham, then working in DRB. He was elected as MS for Alyn and Deeside at a by-election held on 6 February 2018. He succeeded his father, the previous incumbent Carl Sargeant after his death in November 2017. 2018 Alyn And Deeside By-election
The 2018 Alyn and Deeside by-election is a by-election that took place in the National Assembly for Wales constituency of Alyn and Deeside (Assembly constituency), Alyn and Deeside on Tuesday 6 February 2018, following the death of incumbent Labour AM Carl Sargeant on 7 November 2017. The election was the List of Welsh Assembly by-elections, fourth Assembly by-election to be held since its formation in 1999. The seat is a safe seat for the Labour Party, having been held continuously by the party since the beginning of devolved government. The corresponding Alyn and Deeside (UK Parliament constituency), seat in the UK Parliament has been held by Labour since its creation in 1983.
