Ecuador made its winter games debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018. The only competitor was cross-country skier Klaus Jungbluth Rodriguez, who was also the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. Competitors The following is the list of number of competitors participating in the Ecuadorian delegation per sport. Cross-country skiing Ecuador qualified one male cross-country skier. In 2016 Jungbluth sought and received the help of the Ecuadorian National Olympic Committee to create a ski federation for Ecuador, which allowed him to compete for the country. Ángel Medardo Luzuriaga (14 September 1935 – 19 June 2018) was an Ecuadorian musical artist, precursor of the Andean cumbia. Nicolás Kingman Riofrío (November 18, 1918, Loja – March 19, 2018, Quito) was an Ecuadorian journalist, writer and politician. Biography His father, Edward Kingman, moved from Newton, Connecticut, in the United States to coastal Cantón Portovelo in El Oro Province, Ecuador, while working for the "South America Development Company". Edward Kingman worked in the mines of Zaruma and was the second person to have an automobile in Quito (the first was Juan Isaac Navarro). Kingman was the younger brother of the renowned painter Eduardo Kingman. Kingman married Gloria Garcés. Kingman completed his secondary studies at the Colegio Vicente Rocafuerte of Guayaquil. Euler Granda
Euler Granda (June 7, 1935 – February 22, 2018) was an Ecuadorian poet, writer, and psychiatrist. Biography Granda was born in Riobamba, Ecuador, on June 7, 1935, to Aurora Espinoza and Ángel Polibio Granda. He was married to the poet Violeta Luna, with whom he had four children. After he and Luna divorced, he married Ximena Mendoza Párraga, also a poet. They had no children. Career Granda studied psychiatry at the Central University of Ecuador and the University of Guayaquil. Parallel to his studies in medicine, he also became interested in literature, particularly in poetry. Granda's poems often explored the human mental condition. In a (translated) interview with El Universo, Granda pointed out that "the poetry that I do in a certain way is surreal, that is, using elements and internal experiences of the human being.
