2016 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Season
The 2016 Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer season was the 26th season of men's varsity soccer in the conference. The SIU Edwardsville Cougars were the defending regular season champions, while the Drake Bulldogs were the defending tournament champions. The SIU Edwardsville Cougars defeated the host Missouri State Bears in the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Tournament final 1–0 and advanced to the NCAA tournament. The regular season champion Loyola Ramblers received an at-large bid to the tournament, giving the MVC two entries for the first time since 2011. Loyola defeated UIC 2–0 in the first round before falling in the second round at 15th ranked and 13th seeded Notre Dame 1–0. SIUE tied at 13th ranked Michigan State before advancing to the second round in an epic penalty kick battle 9–8. Central Arkansas Bears Soccer
The Central Arkansas Bears men's soccer team represents the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in the ASUN Conference of NCAA Division I men's soccer. Before joining the ASUN on July 1, 2021, UCA had been an all-sports member of the Southland Conference, which sponsors soccer only for women, and had played men's soccer in the Sun Belt Conference. Mario Sanchez (soccer)
Mario Sanchez (born January 28, 1975) is an American soccer coach and former player who was most recently the interim head coach of Racing Louisville FC and the youth academy director for both Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC. He is the former head coach of Louisville City U-23, the SIUE Cougars men's soccer team, and the UNLV Rebels men's soccer team. Sanchez played professionally in the USISL and USL A-League, winning the 1996 and 1997 USISL championship with the Central Coast Roadrunners. Early life Sanchez graduated from Etiwanda High School in 1993. He played soccer for the Alta Loma Soccer Club which won the 1992 U-17 National Championship. He attended the California State University, Fresno, playing on the men's soccer team from 1993 to 1997. In August 1996, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in practice and lost the season. Ralph Korte Stadium, also known as "The Ralph", is a 4,000 seat stadium located on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois. It is home to the SIUE Cougars men's and women's soccer and outdoor track & field teams. In addition to the stands on the west side of the field, a berm was put in on the east side in 2011 to provide lawn seating for the tailgating fans known as "The East Siders."
