2016 European Aquatics Championships
The 2016 European Aquatics Championships took place from 9 to 22 May 2016 in London, United Kingdom, in the London Aquatics Centre. It was the thirty second edition of the event, and the second held in the same year as a Summer Olympics. Hosts Great Britain headed the medal table for the second successive event; although their swimming return was slightly down, partly down to a small number of star names resting prior to Rio, the gap was made up by an outstanding performance in the diving pool. Ben Schwietert
Ben Schwietert (born 16 February 1997) is a Dutch competitive swimmer who specializes in freestyle. Career Schwietert participated in his first international championships at the 2015 European Short Course Championships in Netanya, Israel. He was eliminated in the heats of the 50, 100, and 200 meter freestyle. In the 4×50 m mixed freestyle relay, he won the bronze medal together with Jesse Puts, Inge Dekker, and Ranomi Kromowidjojo. At the 2016 European Aquatics Championships in London, he won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 m mixed freestyle relay together with Sebastiaan Verschuren, Maud van der Meer, and Kromowidjojo. He also won a gold medal in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay for swimming in the heats. Individually Schwietert competed in the 100 meter freestyle. Sebastiaan Verschuren
Sebastiaan Verschuren (born 7 October 1988) is a Dutch former competitive swimmer who specialized in short- and middle-distance freestyle events. At the 2016 European Aquatics Championships he won the gold medal in the 200 meter freestyle. He participated in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, finishing 5th in the 100 meter freestyle in 2012. Swimming career After competing in the European Junior Swimming Championships in 2005 and 2006 Verschuren made his international senior debut at the 2006 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary with a 19th position in the 1500 m freestyle. Two years later he participated in the 2008 European Aquatics Championships in Eindhoven in his home country, where he reached 13th place in the 200 m freestyle. Sarah Fredrika Sjöström (; born 17 August 1993) is a Swedish competitive swimmer specialising in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events. László Cseh (; born 3 December 1985) is a retired Hungarian competitive swimmer and six-time Olympic medalist. He is a 33-time European Champion. His father, László Cseh Sr., also represented Hungary at the Olympics in swimming. In 2020 Braden Keith of SwimSwam nominated him as number 1 withitop 10 male swimmerswho have never won Olympic gold. Personal The son of an Olympic swimmer, Cseh started swimming competitively at an early age. Cseh is coached by György Turi and Zoltán Nemes.
