2014 Oklahoma Elections
A general election was in the U.S. state of Oklahoma on November 4, 2014. All of Oklahoma's executive officers were up for election as well as the state's five seats in the United States House of Representatives and both of the states United States Senate seats. Primary elections were held on June 24, 2014, and primary runoffs were held on August 26, 2014. Governor Incumbent Republican governor Mary Fallin ran for re-election to a second term in office. She was challenged in the primary by Dax Ewbank and attorney Chad Moody. State Representative Joe Dorman ran as a Democrat and Independents Richard Prawdzienski, the former chair of the Libertarian Party of Oklahoma and candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma in 2010 and Kimberly Willis also ran. Gary Jones is a United States businessman and Republican politician from Oklahoma. He is the former Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector. Personal Jones was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Cameron University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration/Accounting degree. Jones is both a certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner. While in college, Jones worked for Southwestern Bell. After 10 years Jones left to start his own telecommunications company, which he sold 16 years later. Jones has operated a cow-calf operation for over 30 years in addition to his other ventures. Bennington is a town in Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 334 at the 2010 census. History In 1853, a Presbyterian minister named A. G. Lansing established Mount Pleasant Mission Station near present-day Matoy in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. Lansing turned the mission operation over to Rev. Charles C. Copeland, who moved the mission a few miles farther south because the original site was in a boggy and remote location that was unhealthy. Copeland renamed the mission Bennington Mission Station, honoring his home town of Bennington, Vermont. A post office was established in 1873, but closed in 1878. It was reestablished in 1884. Peggs is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, United States. It had a population of 813 at the 2010 census, compared to 814 at the 2000 census. A large minority of its residents are Native American, most of them members of 10 tribal groups such as the Cherokee Nation and the Muscogee Creek Nation. Joy Lynn Hofmeister (born September 7, 1964) is an American educator and politician who served as the Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2015 to 2023. Hofmeister was sworn in as Oklahoma's 14th State Superintendent on January 12, 2015, after defeating the incumbent Republican candidate, Janet Barresi, in the primary election and Democratic candidate John Cox in the general election. Hofmeister was re-elected on November 6, 2018, and sworn in for a second four-year term as State Superintendent on January 14, 2019.
