It was held from 17 August to 24 August 2013 in Boom, Belgium. Germany defeated England in the final to win their second title. Qualified teams * * * * * * * * Format The eight teams were split into two groups of four teams. The top two teams advanced to the semifinals to determine the winner in a knockout system. The bottom two teams played in a new group against the teams they did not play in the group stage. The last two teams were relegated to the EuroHockey Nations Challenge. The Women's EuroHockey Nations Championship is an international women's field hockey competition organized by the European Hockey Federation (EHF) for the top eight European national teams. It is the top division of the EuroHockey Championships. The inaugural tournament took place in 1984. When the tournament is held close to the Summer Olympic games or the Women's Hockey World Cup, the winner of the tournament is awarded a place in those competitions. Format The tournament is played in Divisions normally consisting of eight teams. The top division, containing the eight best national teams, is called the EuroHockey Nations Championship, below which there is the EuroHockey Championship II, then the EuroHockey Championship III, then the EuroHockey Championship IV, and so on. Ellen Marijn Hoog (, born 26 March 1986) is a former Dutch field hockey player, who is regarded as one of the best Dutch hockey players of her generation. Field hockey career Ellen began playing field hockey at the age of seven and in 2002, aged 16 she was selected to play her first senior game for Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club in Bilthoven and made her debut for the Netherlands women's national field hockey team at age 17 in 2004 and has played in 232 matches, scoring 60 goals. Kate Louise Richardson-Walsh, (''née'' Walsh; born 9 May 1980) is an Olympic Gold and Bronze Medal winning English field hockey player. She was capped a record 375 times for her country and was the England and Great Britain Captain for 13 years. Early life Richardson-Walsh was born in Withington, Manchester and attended Priestnall School in Stockport. Hannah Louise Macleod, (born 9 June 1984) is an English field hockey player. Macleod began her youth career at St Ives Hockey Club, Cambridge, and rose up the ranks to play for their first team. She went on to play club hockey for St Albans, Leicester and Loughborough Students. She made her international debut in 2003. Lisa Rae Jacob (born May 13, 1974) is an American former competition swimmer who won two gold medals at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Jacob won three gold medals in the 200-meter freestyle, the 4×100-meter relay, and the 4×200-meter relay at the 1991 Pan American Games. Later, she attended Stanford University, where she swam for the Stanford Cardinal swimming and diving team. She won three Pacific-10 Conference championships and two NCAA championships in the 1995–96 season.
