2012 US Open Series
In tennis, the ninth edition of the US Open Series (known as Emirates Airline US Open Series for sponsorships reasons), included twelve hard court tournaments that started on July 9, 2012 in Stanford and concluded in Winston-Salem for the men and in New Haven for the women on August 26, 2012. This edition scheduled four separate men's tournaments and four women's tournaments – the Citi Open and the Western & Southern Open hosted both a men's and women's event. The series was headlined by two ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and two WTA Premier 5 events. The series winners were Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitová. US Open Series
The US Open Series is the name given by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to a series of North American professional tennis tournaments leading up to and including the US Open. It is part of the "North American hard court season". Emirates sponsored the series in the past, under a deal in place from 2012 to 2016. The series was initially organized in 2004 as a way to focus more attention on American tennis tournaments by getting more of them on domestic television. Until 2004, most summer North American tournaments were not on television, the exceptions being the prominent ATP Tour Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati. Since the inception of the series, Rafael Nadal is the only tennis player to win Canada, Cincinnati, and the US Open in a calendar year (2013), a feat referred to as the " Summer Slam" or the "North American Hardcourt Slam". Alexandr Oleksandrovych Dolgopolov (born 7 November 1988), formerly known as Oleksandr Dolgopolov Jr., is a Ukrainian retired professional tennis player. He changed his forename spelling to the current form in May 2010. The 2012 Western and Southern Open (known as such for sponsorship reasons) was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 111th edition (for the men) and the 84th (for the women) of the Cincinnati Masters, and was part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the 2012 ATP World Tour, and of the WTA Premier 5 tournaments of the 2012 WTA Tour. Xavier Malisse
Xavier Malisse (born 19 July 1980) is a former Belgian professional tennis player. Born in the north-western Flemish city of Kortrijk and nicknamed ''X-Man'', he is one of only two Belgian men (the other being David Goffin) to have been ranked in the top 20 of the ATP Tour, with a career-high singles ranking of world No. 19. Michael Craig Russell (born May 1, 1978) is a retired American professional tennis player, who is now the tennis coach of Taylor Fritz. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 60 in August 2007. His 23 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Pro Circuit singles titles were the all-time record, as of November 2013. Radek Štěpánek (; born 27 November 1978) is a Czech former professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was world No. 8 and best doubles ranking was world No. 4. Marcel Granollers Pujol (; ; born 12 April 1986) is a Spanish professional tennis player. Tommy Haas
Thomas Mario Haas (; born 3 April 1978) is a German former professional tennis player. He competed on the ATP Tour from 1996 to 2017. After breaking into the world top 100 in 1997, and reaching a career-high singles ranking of world No. 2 in May 2002, his career was interrupted by injuries: Haas twice dropped out of the world rankings due to being unable to play for twelve months.
