South Korea

IU (singer)
Lee Ji-eun (; born May 16, 1993), also known by her stage name IU (), is a South Korean singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. She signed with LOEN Entertainment (now Kakao Entertainment) in 2007 as a trainee and debuted as a singer at the age of fifteen with her first extended play (EP) ''Lost and Found'' (2008). Although her follow-up albums, '' Growing Up'' and '' IU...IM'', brought mainstream success, it was only after the release of " Good Day" ( ko, 좋은 날), the lead single from her 2010 album ''Real'', that she achieved national stardom. Ballad
A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads derive from the medieval French ''chanson balladée'' or ''ballade'', which were originally "dance songs". Ballads were particularly characteristic of the popular poetry and song of Britain and Ireland from the Late Middle Ages until the 19th century. They were widely used across Europe, and later in Australia, North Africa, North America and South America. Ballads are often 13 lines with an ABABBCBC form, consisting of couplets (two lines) of rhymed verse, each of 14 syllables. Another common form is ABAB or ABCB repeated, in alternating eight and six syllable lines. Many ballads were written and sold as single sheet broadsides. The form was often used by poets and composers from the 18th century onwards to produce lyrical ballads. Wax (singer)
Cho Hye-ri (Hangul: 조혜리; born May 31, 1972), better known by her stage name Wax (Hangul: 왁스), is a South Korean pop singer. She debuted in 1998 as the lead vocalist of the rock band DOG. She released her first solo album, ''The Diary of Mom'', in 2000. Wax made her acting debut in 2007 with a main role in the musical ''Fixing My Makeup'', the plot of which is based on her hit song of the same name. Biography Wax was born on May 31, 1972, with the birth name Cho Hye-Ri. Cho graduated from the Department of Postmodern Music at Kyung Hee University. Although she has been professionally active since 1998, her personal life has been mostly veiled from the public. Career Her debut as a singer was as lead vocalist of the band Dog in 1998. K-pop
K-pop (), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The term "K-pop" became popular in the 2000s, especially in the international context. The Korean term for domestic pop music is ''gayo'' (), which is still widely used within South Korea. While "K-pop" can refer to all popular music or pop music from South Korea, it is colloquially often used in a ''narrower'' sense for any Korean music and artists associated with the entertainment and idol industry in the country, regardless of the genre. Turtles (South Korean Band)
Turtles () was a South Korean hip-hop group which debuted in 2001. The single "Airplane" (bihaengi) from their fourth album topped the KBS chart in September 2006. The lead singer and rapper of the group, "Turtleman" (born Lim Sung-hoon), died of a heart attack on April 2, 2008; he was found by his manager at his apartment. Stony Skunk
Stony Skunk (hangul: 스토니 스컹크, ''Seutoni Seukunkeu'') was South Korea's reggae and hip hop duo. They started as an underground band, then were signed by YG Entertainment. Their first album was released in 2003, titled "Stony Skunk". In 2008, when Skull joined the army they disbanded, it was announced in 2010 that they had disbanded in 2008; Skull left the company at that time. Kush became a producer and songwriter at YG Entertainment using two aliases, Kush and e.knock. He produced several songs for Big Bang and 2NE1. Sanulrim
Sanulrim (Hangul: 산울림), also spelled Sanullim, was a South Korean rock band that debuted in 1977. They are considered to be one of South Korea's most influential rock groups. The band consisted of brothers Kim Chang-wan, Kim Chang-hoon, and Kim Chang-ik. History The three members of Sanulrim are brothers, not unlike the bands Gentle Giant and the Bee Gees. They were Kim Chang-wan (김창완, 1954-), Kim Chang-hoon (김창훈, 1956-), Kim Chang-ik (김창익, 1958-2008). The band, formed when the three were university students, was initially called 무이 (Mui) and was never meant to be professional. Heo Sol-ji
Heo Sol-ji (Hangul: 허솔지; born January 10, 1989), known mononymously as Solji, is a South Korean singer. She was a member of the ballad duo group 2NB from 2006 to 2010. She later became a vocal trainer before joining EXID in July 2012 as the leader and main vocalist. Career Solji was formerly a member of the vocal duo 2NB with Blady's Gabin, and released solo singles in 2008. The duo disbanded in 2012. She then worked as EXID's vocal trainer before becoming a member. In April 2012, AB Entertainment announced that three original members Yuji, Dami, and Haeryeong would leave the girl group EXID. Solji then joined EXID along with Hyelin, a former '' Superstar K3'' participant. In February 2013, EXID formed a sub-unit called "Dasoni", which consisted of Solji and Hani. Park Sae-byul
Park Saebyul (; born October 24, 1985) is a South Korean indie singer-songwriter. Life and career Park Saebyul was born in Seoul and graduated from Yonsei University in 2010 with a major in psychology. Before her debut, she served as a keyboard session for stages and album of Lucid Fall. In 2008, she released her first mini-album 《Diary》, and in March 2010, the first regular album 《새벽별 (Morning Star)》 written and produced by herself was released. As a radio DJ, she hosted "아름다운 동요세상 (Beautiful World of Children's Songs)" on the education channel EBS from March 6, 2011 to February 28, 2012. Saebyul also contributes of dubbing the singing voice of main characters in Disney films.
