''Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala'' (National Football League of Guatemala), formerly known as Liga Mayor "A" (Major League "A") is a professional football division in Guatemala, the highest one in the country. It is sanctioned by the ''Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala''. The champion and runner-up teams of the Liga Nacional's official tournaments qualify to participate in international competitions within their regional confederation. Twelve teams currently compete in the league. Municipal and Comunicaciones are the two most successful clubs in the league to date, having won 31 tournaments respectively. The Estadio Nacional Doroteo Guamuch Flores is a multi-use national stadium in Guatemala City, the largest venue in Guatemala. It was built in 1948, to host the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1950, and was renamed after long-distance runner Doroteo Guamuch Flores, winner of the 1952 Boston Marathon. It has a capacity of 26,000 seats. Used mostly for football (soccer) matches, the stadium has hosted the majority of the home matches of the Guatemala national football team throughout its history, and is the home of local football club Comunicaciones F.C. The venue is operated by the '' Confederación Deportiva Autónoma de Guatemala'' (CDAG). The Estadio Carlos Salazar Hijo is a football stadium in Mazatenango, Guatemala, home to one of the most traditional first division clubs in the country, Deportivo Suchitepéquez (los venados). It has a capacity of 10,000 (formerly 12,000) and it is situated in the neighbourhood of Santa Cristina. The stadium was opened on 24 November 1966 and its cost was Q. 8,000,000. Club Deportivo Heredia is a Guatemalan football team that last played in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala. History Founded as ''Deportivo Heredia'' in 1958, the club has been based in San Jose, Peten only since summer 2008. The team moved the club from Morales after low attendances and also changed the name to Heredia Jaguares de Peten after they only avoided relegation after appealing against Universidad's use of two suspended players in the first leg of a relegation playoff.
