Georgia (, ; ) is a transcontinental country at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Zurab Zhvania
Zurab Zhvania ( ka, ზურაბ ჟვანია; 9 December 1963 – 3 February 2005) was a Georgian politician, who served as Prime Minister of Georgia and Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia. Zhvania began his political career at young age, making his first political steps as a member of Green Party, in the beginning of 90s. In 1992 Zhvania was elected chairman of Eastern European Green's and was first Eastern European to serve at the post. In 1993 Zhvania made first serious steps in Georgian politics as he was elected as General Secretary of Citizen's Union. From that point Zhvania served important role in Georgian politics until his death in 2005. 1995 he became the chairman of parliament and maintained the post until his resignation in 1999, which was followed with discharge of other ministers, whom Zhvania suspected in Corruption. United Nations Security Council resolution 1582, adopted unanimously on 28 January 2005, after reaffirming all resolutions on Abkhazia and Georgia, particularly Resolution 1554 (2004), the council extended the mandate of the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) until 31 July 2005. Georgia's attendance at the meeting was opposed by Russia, and therefore the former was not present. Resolution Observations In the preamble of the resolution, the security council stressed that the lack of progress on a settlement between the two parties was unacceptable. It condemned the shooting down of an UNOMIG helicopter in October 2001 which resulted in nine deaths and deplored that the perpetrators of the attack had not been identified. The 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification UEFA Group 2 was a UEFA qualifying group for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The group comprised Albania, Denmark, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Ukraine. 2005 European Nations Cup
The 2005 European Nations Cup saw France national rugby league team, France secure their first win over Wales national rugby league team, Wales in 24 years, winning 38–16 and taking the Rugby League European Cup, European Nations Cup back to France. The revamped competition involved six teams competing in two groups of three. Five of the teams: France, Ireland national rugby league team, Ireland, Scotland national rugby league team, Scotland, Wales, Russia national rugby league team, Russia qualified automatically for the tournament, whilst new entrant Georgia national rugby league team, Georgia came through a qualifying tournament. European Democrats (Georgia)
The European Democrats ( ka, ევროპელი დემოკრატები, tr) is a political movement in Georgia, formed in 2005 by a group of internally displaced persons from breakaway Abkhazia. Its chairman is Paata Davitaia, former Minister of Justice in the Abkhazian government-in-exile. The party focuses mainly on the Abkhazia problem and targets displaced persons. It was known as We, Ourselves or On Our Own (, ) until September 2011, and it remains the party's slogan.
