Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National TV Channel ETV has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service ZUUMtv, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. In 2006, only ETV was available for free, but as of March 2009, there are already 7 free channels in digital broadcast. Digital television signal ( DVB-T and DVB-H) is broadcast by Levira. Evelin Samuel
Evelin Samuel (born 13 May 1975) is an Estonian singer, songwriter, musical theater performer, author of children's books and participant in the Eurovision Song Contest. Career Evelin Samuel has been singing since childhood and was even recorded by the studios of the Estonian Radio at a very early age. In the late 1980s, Evelin joined the children's musical theatre Colombina whom she performed with at the 1992 Roskilde Festival in Denmark. In 1993, she finished 4th at ''Kaks takti ette'', a contest for debutant singers, organized by Estonian Television. The same year, she won the Baltic song contest ''Via Baltica'' and a year later she won again with "''Vari ja roos''" at Uus Laul, a song contest organized by the Estonian Television. In 1997 and 1999, Evelin Samuel took part in the Eurovision Song Contest while 2002 saw the release of her debut album ''Alternature: Over The Water Blue''. The Eurovision Song Contest 1999 was the 44th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 29 May 1999 at the International Convention Centre in Jerusalem, Israel. Diamond Of Night
Estonia entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1999, held in Jerusalem. This was their fifth entry at Eurovision, having debuted at the 1994 contest. The Estonian representative for the contest was Evelin Samuel and Camille with the song "Diamond of Night". It was the first contest with non-Estonian songs in the national final and the first time a non-Estonian song was picked to represent Estonia. Before Eurovision Eurolaul 1999 The final was held on 30 January 1999 at the ETV Studios in Tallinn. It was hosted by Romi Erlach and Marko Reikop. The format of the final was the same as in previous years, with a 10-member "expert" international jury awarding points to their favourite songs from the 10 in the final. Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV.
