Jean-Luc Dehaene
Jean Luc Joseph Marie "Jean-Luc" Dehaene (; 7 August 1940 – 15 May 2014) was a Belgian politician who served as the prime minister of Belgium from 1992 until 1999. During his political career, he was nicknamed "The Plumber" and "The Minesweeper" for his ability to negotiate political deadlocks. A member of the ''Christen-Democratisch en Vlaams'' (CD&V) party and its antecedents, Dehaene gained his first ministerial appointment in 1981. Dehaene's first government (1992–1995) included both Christian and Social Democrats and presided over the creation of a new constitution, effectively transforming Belgium into a Federalism, federal state. His second government (1995–1999) coincided with a number of crises in Belgium including the Marc Dutroux, Dutroux scandal. The Dioxin Affair, occurring shortly before the 1999 election, led to a swing against the major parties and Dehaene's government fell. Marc Dutroux
Marc Paul Alain Dutroux (; born 6 November 1956) is a Belgian convicted serial killer, serial rapist, and child molester. Initially convicted for the abduction and rape of five young girls in 1989, Dutroux was released on parole after just three years' imprisonment. He was arrested again in 1996 on suspicion of having abducted, tortured, and sexually abused six girls aged between 8 and 19, four of whom were killed. His widely publicized trial ended with his conviction on all charges in 2004; he was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment. Dutroux's accomplices included his wife, Michelle Martin, Michel Lelièvre, Michel Nihoul, and Bernard Weinstein. Luc Gillon
Monseigneur Luc Gillon was a Belgian priest and nuclear scientist. He became the first rector of the Lovanium University (now University of Kinshasa) in Léopoldville from 1954 to 1967. Gillon played a significant role in the construction of the first nuclear reactor Trico I in Africa, located on the Lovanium campus in 1959. Life Gillon was born in Rochefort on 15 September 1920. After being ordained priest at Easter 1946 by Cardinal Van Roey, he received in 1952 his doctorate in physical sciences, specializing in nuclear energy, at Louvain. In 1952, he was invited as "guest staff member" at the Palmer Physics Laboratory at Princeton University. He was appointed protonotary apostolic in 1957. Cyriel Paul Coupé (1918–1998) was a Belgian diocesan priest, teacher, writer and poet, also known by the pseudonym Anton van Wilderode. Life Coupé was born in Moerbeke-Waas on 28 June 1918. He was ordained as a priest on 21 May 1944 in the Diocese of Ghent. He graduated in Classical philology at the Catholic University of Leuven. From 1946 until his retirement in 1982, he worked as a teacher in Sint-Niklaas at the St. Joseph Minor Seminary. Among his pupils were Paul Snoek and Tom Lanoye. He made his literary debut in 1939, with the short story ''Dis al'' ("This is all") in the magazine ''Nederland''. His debut as a poet followed in 1943, with the collection of poems ''De moerbeitoppen ruischten'' ("The mulberries rustled"). He was cofounder of the magazine ''Podium'' (1943–1944). Olivier Gendebien
Olivier Jean Marie Fernand Gendebien (12 January 1924 – 2 October 1998) was a Belgian racing driver who was called "one of the greatest sportscar racers of all time". Rally racer Gendebien spent some years in the Belgian Congo. On his return to Europe he teamed up with Fraikin to compete in the 1952 Liège–Rome–Liège Rally using a Jaguar Mk VII saloon car. Together with Pierre Stasse, Gendebien won the sixth running of the Tulip Rally in Zandvoort in April 1954. Their car was an Alfa Romeo 1900 TI. The Gendebien and Fraiken partnership gained the nickname "the eternal bridesmaids", owing to their number of second-place finishes, but after two previous attempts they triumphed in the Liège–Rome–Liège Rally, the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti and Rally Stella Alpina in 1955, driving a Mercedes-Benz 300SL.
