Grand Duke Of Luxembourg
The Grand Duke of Luxembourg ( lb, Groussherzog vu Lëtzebuerg, french: Grand-duc de Luxembourg, german: Großherzog von Luxemburg) is the monarchical head of state of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has been a grand duchy since 15 March 1815, when it was created from territory of the former Duchy of Luxembourg. It was in personal union with the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until 1890 under the House of Orange-Nassau. Luxembourg is the world's only sovereign grand duchy and since 1815, there have been nine monarchs, including the incumbent, Henri. Modern Times (band)
The band Modern Times, consisting of Simone Weis and Jimmy Martin, was the last (until ) participants for Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest and performed the song " Donne-moi une chance" in the 1993 contest . The song finished in 20th place with 11 points. This was to be the last entry for the Grand Duchy until 2024. The band were Luxembourg nationals and were the last of 9 acts to have sung for their country in 37 attempts. Théo Kerg
Théo Kerg (2 June 1909 – 4 March 1993) was a Luxembourgian painter and sculptor who specialized in modern art. Life Kerg was born to a schoolmaster and his wife in Niederkorn, in south-western Luxembourg, Théo Kerg attended school in Esch-sur-Alzette. He moved to Paris, France, in 1929 to study at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the Sorbonne and the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie. From 1932 to 1933, he studied at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany, under the supervision of Paul Klee and Oskar Moll. He returned to Luxembourg in 1936 to become an art professor. In 1943, following the German invasion of Luxembourg in World War II, Théo Kerg resigned from his position. He was however subsequently arrested in 1944 by the Luxembourgian allied militia, and kept in prison for 15 months as a preventive measure. He left Luxembourg in 1946, aiming to settle in Venezuela, but stopped in Paris where he illustrated a book by Paul Eluard. He permanently settled ... Victor Abens
Victor Abens (16 October 1912 – 14 January 1993) was a Luxembourgish politician. Background and World War Two Victor Abens was a prominent member of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party. He was a member of the Lëtzeburger Volleks Legio'n (LVL) resistance group, which fought against the German occupation during the Second World War. In November 1944, he led the successful defense of his hometown Vianden and Vianden Castle against assault by the Waffen SS. Post-World War Two activities After the war, he sat in the Chamber of Deputies from 1945, and was mayor of his hometown of Vianden from 1946, before resigning both offices in 1981. He represented the Chamber of Deputies in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Council of Europe from 1964 until 1979 (1964-72 as a substitute). Maximilian Sciandri
Maximilian Sciandri (born 15 February 1967) is a retired British road racing cyclist of Italian descent. He competed as an Italian national up to February 1995, then took British citizenship. He won the bronze medal in the men's individual road race at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, USA. He was a professional rider from 1989 to 2004. Sciandri subsequently worked for the as a Directeur sportif from 2011 to 2018, having previously ridden for team manager Jim Ochowicz at the Motorola team in the 1990s. Prior to joining BMC he worked with British Cycling, helping to establish their base in Quarrata, and developing riders such as Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas.
