1986 Grand Prix (tennis)
The 1986 Nabisco Grand Prix was the only tennis circuit held that year. The tour consisted of 70 tournaments in 23 different countries. It incorporated three of the four grand slam tournaments, three World Championship Tennis tournaments and the Grand Prix tournaments. Grand Slam (tennis)
The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". The Grand Slam tournaments, also referred to as majors, are the world's four most important annual professional tennis tournaments. Balázs Taróczy
Balázs Taróczy ( hu, Taróczy Balázs; born 9 May 1954) is a retired tennis player from Hungary. The right-hander won 13 singles titles in his career, and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 12 in April 1982. Tennis career Taróczy was six times a Hungarian national champion. One of the game's premier doubles players, Balazs and partner Heinz Günthardt won the 1985 Wimbledon doubles title. Though never especially proficient on the grass, the duo defeated Pat Cash/John Fitzgerald in four sets. Heinz Günthardt
Heinz Peter Günthardt (born 8 February 1959) is a retired tennis player from Switzerland. Tennis player career Günthardt won five singles titles during his professional career, including the Rotterdam WCT in 1980. The right-hander reached his career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 22 in April 1986. In doubles, he captured a total number of 30 titles. Günthardt won the men's doubles at the 1981 Roland Garros and the 1985 Wimbledon Championships with Balázs Taróczy, and the mixed doubles at the 1985 US Open with Martina Navratilova. He was also a member of the Swiss team at the 1988 Olympic Games. Rick Rudeen (born June 5, 1962) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Rudeen was born in Chicago and grew up in Tampa, Florida. In the early 1980s he attended Clemson University, where he played collegiate tennis while he studied for a Computer Science degree. An All-American player, he won a total of 172 NCAA Division I matches during his tennis career at Clemson University. In 1985 he began competing professionally and that year made the round of 16 at the Tokyo Outdoor Grand Prix tournament, by beating Danny Saltz then Menno Oosting. It was as a doubles player he made more success, with one Grand Prix final, at Auckland in 1986, with regular doubles partner Karl Richter. Karl Richter (tennis)
Karl Richter (born July 21, 1960) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Richter grew up Auburn, California, near Sacramento. As a collegiate player at Texas Christian University (TCU) he won the NCAA Division 1 doubles title in 1981. He and partner David Pate were seeded third and defeated Arkansas's Pat Serret and Peter Doohan in the final. This made them the first players in TCU's history to win a national championship in tennis. Turning professional in 1983, Richter spent four years on the international tour, mostly as a doubles specialist. His most regular partner on tour was Rick Rudeen and the pair were runners-up at a Grand Prix tournament in Auckland in 1986. Brad Drewett
Brad Drewett (19 July 1958 – 3 May 2013) was an Australian tennis player and ATP official. He was the 1975 and 1977 Australian Open junior champion and the youngest player at age 17 to win the title since Ken Rosewall and John Newcombe. He was also the third-youngest Australian Open quarterfinalist in his first Grand Slam appearance, at 17 years 5 months in 1975, behind Boris Becker, 17 years 4 days in 1984 and Goran Ivanišević, 17 years 4 months in 1989. David Lewis (tennis)
David Lewis (born 3 September 1964) is a former professional tennis player from New Zealand. He is a younger brother of 1983 Wimbledon finalist Chris Lewis and of Mark Lewis. He spent his childhood in Auckland and was educated at St Peter's College. Career Lewis and partner Tony Withers won the boys' doubles title in the 1981 Australian Open. He was a singles quarter-finalist in the boys' singles at the 1982 Australian Open and also won the New Zealand National Championships for the 18s age group that year. Most successful as a doubles player, Lewis was a runner-up in the 1990 Geneva Open with Neil Borwick. Brett Dickinson (born December 4, 1962) is a former American professional tennis player. Biography Dickinson was born in Atlanta, Georgia but grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He studied mathematics at San Jose State University in the early 1980s and played collegiate tennis, before turning professional. His greatest achievement on tour was reaching the doubles final of the 1985 Melbourne Outdoor, a Grand Prix tournament, with Roberto Saad. The pair were defeated in the final by local pairing Darren Cahill and Peter Carter.
