Grand Duke Of Luxembourg
The Grand Duke of Luxembourg ( lb, Groussherzog vu Lëtzebuerg, french: Grand-duc de Luxembourg, german: Großherzog von Luxemburg) is the monarchical head of state of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has been a grand duchy since 15 March 1815, when it was created from territory of the former Duchy of Luxembourg. It was in personal union with the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until 1890 under the House of Orange-Nassau. Luxembourg is the world's only sovereign grand duchy and since 1815, there have been nine monarchs, including the incumbent, Henri. Schengen Agreement
The Schengen Agreement ( , ) is a treaty which led to the creation of Europe's Schengen Area, in which internal border checks have largely been abolished. It was signed on 14 June 1985, near the town of Schengen, Luxembourg, by five of the ten member states of the then European Economic Community. Luxembourg National Football Team
The Luxembourg national football team (nicknamed the ''Red Lions''; lb, Lëtzebuergesch Foussballnationalequipe, french: Équipe du Luxembourg de football, german: Luxemburgische Fußballnationalmannschaft) is the national football team of Luxembourg, and is controlled by the Luxembourg Football Federation. The team plays most of its home matches at the Stade de Luxembourg in Luxembourg City. Pope John Paul II
Pope John Paul II ( la, Ioannes Paulus II; it, Giovanni Paolo II; pl, Jan Paweł II; born Karol Józef Wojtyła ; 18 May 19202 April 2005) was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 1978 until his death in April 2005, and was later canonised as Pope Saint John Paul II. Eurovision Song Contest 1985
The Eurovision Song Contest 1985 was the 30th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, following the country's victory at the with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" by Herreys. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at the Scandinavium on the 4th of May 1985 and was hosted by previous Swedish contestant Lill Lindfors. Nineteen countries took part in the contest, with the and deciding not to participate. The winner was with the song "La det swinge" by Bobbysocks!. This was Norway's first victory in the contest, after a long period of low scores, including 3 "nul points". Location Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden and the fifth-largest in the Nordic countries. Diane Solomon
Diane Solomon is an American singer, songwriter and nutritionist, who was part of the group who represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1985, in which they sang "Children, Kinder, Enfants". They received 37 points and finished in thirteenth place. Biography After gaining a BSC at the University of Oregon, majoring in communications and theatre arts, she arrived in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, intending to enter the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. But before she was able to, she was "discovered" by a BBC executive (John R King) playing her guitar and singing country and folk songs at a private New Year's party in London. Following a successful screen test, she was awarded her own television programme, ''The Diane Solomon Show'', on BBC One. The first was an hour long special filled with songs and interviews, which aired on December 24, 1974, with guests including Demis Roussos, Spike Milligan and Arthur Negus. Malcolm James Roberts (31 March 1944 – 7 February 2003) was an English traditional pop music singer, who enjoyed three hit singles from 1967 to 1969 on the UK Singles Chart. He was also an actor and musical theatre star. Actor Born in Blackley, Manchester, England, Roberts began his career in the entertainment industry as an actor. He had a small role in the TV show ''Coronation Street''. His work as Tony in '' West Side Story'' led to a role in the musical '' Maggie May'' at the Adelphi Theatre in 1964. Roberts later appeared in pantomime, starring opposite Ronnie Corbett and Clodagh Rodgers in the 1971 production of ''Cinderella'' at the London Palladium. Chris Roberts (singer)
Chris Roberts (born Christian Franz Klusáček; 13 March 1944 – 2 July 2017) was a German schlager singer and actor. He was born in Munich-Schwabing and was married to the singer and actress Claudia Roberts; they often performed on stage together. Biography Roberts was most popular as a singer in Germany in the 1970s; he charted there with 24 songs between 1968 and 1980. He also acted in a number of films during that time. He represented Luxembourg as a part of a sextet in the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 in which they sang "Children, Kinder, Enfants". They earned 37 points and attained 13th position. Roberts' first two singles, "Baby's Gone" and "Welchen Weg soll ich gehen", were released under the artist name Chris Robert. Death Chris Roberts died after suffering lung cancer. He was survived by his wife Claudia Roberts.
