Grand Slam (tennis)
The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". The Grand Slam tournaments, also referred to as majors, are the world's four most important annual professional tennis tournaments. Björn Borg
Björn Rune Borg (; born 6 June 1956) is a Swedish former world No. 1 tennis player. Between 1974 and 1981, he became the first man in the Open Era to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles with six at the French Open and five consecutively at Wimbledon. Borg won four consecutive French Open titles (1978–81) and is 6–0 in French Open finals. He was the first man since 1886 to contest six consecutive Wimbledon finals, a record surpassed by Roger Federer's seven consecutive finals (2003–09). He is the only man to achieve the Channel Slam three times. Borg contested the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open finals in the same year three times (1978, 1980–81). He won three major titles without dropping a set during those tournaments. However, he never won the US Open despite four runner-up finishes. Kathrin Keil Sieberth (born November 28, 1962) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Her surname is pronounced "Kyle". Biography Keil grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she moved to from California at the age of five. Her father, noted scientist Klaus Keil, was a professor of geology at the University of New Mexico. Both of her parents were German immigrants. She has a younger brother, Mark Keil, who also became a professional tennis player. For her junior year of high school she returned to California and lived with a family in Malibu while she trained under Paul Cohen, who later coached John McEnroe. At the 1980 US Open she was runner-up to Susan Mascarin in the girls' singles and in the same year made the semi-finals of a WTA Tour tournament in Tampa. Eric Wilborts (born 20 June 1964) is a Dutch former professional tennis player. Wilborts was a left-handed player from Tilburg who was ranked as high as three in the world junior rankings as a 16 year old. Frew McMillan
Frew Donald McMillan (born 20 May 1942) is a former professional male tennis player from South Africa who won five grand slam doubles titles including three Wimbledons with Bob Hewitt. All together, he won 63 doubles titles, surpassed only by the Bryan brothers, Mark Woodforde, Todd Woodbridge, John McEnroe and Tom Okker. He was also ranked No.1 in Doubles on the ATP Computer for a significant period from 1977 to 1979 when he was aged 37. Biography McMillan was born in Springs, South Africa. Aside from his considerable success as a doubles player, he had a singles career with good results mostly in South Africa. Betty Stöve
Betty Flippina Stöve (born 24 June 1945) is a Dutch former professional tennis player. She is best remembered for reaching the ladies' singles final, the ladies' doubles final and the mixed doubles final during the same year at Wimbledon in 1977. She also won ten Grand Slam titles in women's doubles and mixed doubles. Career Stöve began playing tennis internationally in the mid-1960s. She made her Grand Slam debut at the 1964 Wimbledon. A virus, complicated by a malfunctioning thyroid gland, forced Stöve out of tennis for an 18-month period in the late 1960s. Despite being advised that she should never play tennis again, Stöve recovered to have her best years on the circuit. Stöve was an accomplished singles player reaching several finals on tour and attaining a singles ranking of number 5.
