The following is a list of events relating to television in Ireland from 1979. Events *January – RTÉ establishes an internal working party to investigate the representation of women in news reporting. Their findings are published in April 1981. *8 April – UK children's television series ''Worzel Gummidge'' begins airing on RTÉ 1 two months after its screening debut in its original country. *May – ''The Riordans'' is aired on television for the final time. Television In Ireland
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. The biggest single multichannel television network in Ireland is Sky Ireland, which broadcasts digital satellite television services. The Late Late Show (Ireland)
''The Late Late Show'', with its title often shortened to ''The Late Late'', is an Irish chat show. It is the world's second longest-running late-night talk show, after the American ''The Tonight Show''. Perceived as the official flagship television programme of the Republic of Ireland's public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), it is regarded as an Irish television institution, and is broadcast live across two hours plus in front of a studio audience on Friday nights between September and May at 21.30. Certain segments are sometimes pre-recorded and aired within the live parts of the show. Aisling O'Loughlin
Aisling O'Loughlin (born 1978) is best known for co-presenting TV3's ''Xposé'' since 2007. Early life Born in Shannon, County Clare, O'Loughlin was educated locally before later attending Villiers School in Limerick. She subsequently studied journalism at Dublin City University (DCU). Career O'Loughlin began her broadcasting career while studying journalism at DCU. As part of her internship she worked on the ''Today with Pat Kenny'' show on RTÉ Radio 1 where she reported on a range of current affairs subjects. She later completed her studies in Toulouse. After returning to Ireland O'Loughlin joined Clare FM where she read the news and also reported on local issues. Kirsteen O'Sullivan
Kirsteen O'Sullivan (born 24 November 1979) is a Scottish presenter on TV3 in Ireland. O'Sullivan joined TV3 in July 2009 as a freelance journalist on TV3 News. She presented TV3's motoring show ''Xccelerate'' and has appeared as a reporter on GMTV. She began presenting TV3's coverage of the UEFA Champions League in February 2010. Leigh Arnold (born Megan Leigh Arnold) is an Irish actress. A native of Foxrock, County Dublin, Arnold is known for her role of Dr Clodagh Delaney in the Irish TV series '' The Clinic''. Brian Ormond (born 8 August 1979) is an Irish television presenter, businessman and reality TV star. Amy Huberman (born 20 March 1979) is an Irish actress and writer, which is known for her role as Daisy in the RTÉ drama series '' The Clinic''. In 2018, she began writing and starring in the comedy series ''Finding Joy''. Early life Huberman grew up in Dublin, south Dublin. She is the middle child of three siblings and the only daughter. RTÉ News On Two
''RTÉ News on Two'' was a late night news programme that aired each Monday to Thursday on Irish public service broadcaster RTÉ Two. The transmission time of this programme varied each night. It generally aired between 10:45pm and 11:30pm. It ran for 10 minutes. Until 4 January 2013, the programme was broadcast every Monday to Thursday, lasting 22 minutes. A world weather forecast followed each broadcast. ''RTÉ News on Two'' took a different agenda to other RTÉ News and Current Affairs programmes. Its content was customised for a younger audience, and presenters and journalists tend to use more informal language on the programme.
