Margrethe II Of Denmark
Margrethe II (; Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid, born 16 April 1940) is Queen of Denmark. Having reigned as Denmark's monarch for over 50 years, she is Europe's longest-serving current head of state and the world's only incumbent female monarch following the death of Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Born into the House of Glücksburg, a cadet branch of the House of Oldenburg, Margrethe is the eldest child of Frederick IX of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden. She became heir presumptive to her father in 1953, when a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne. Margrethe succeeded her father upon his death on 14 January 1972. On her accession, she became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margrethe I, ruler of the Scandinavian kingdoms in 1375–1412 during the Kalmar Union. Poul Hartling
Poul Hartling (14 August 1914 – 30 April 2000) was a Danish politician and diplomat. He was leader of Venstre from 1965 to 1977, and served as Prime Minister of Denmark from 1973 to 1975. Prior to that, he served as foreign minister from 1968 to 1971 under Hilmar Baunsgaard. From 1978 to 1985, he served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Career Hartling graduated in theology 1939, became ordained as a priest, and later headed a teacher's seminary. He was a member of parliament 1957–1960, and again 1964–1977, and party leader 1965–1977. Hartling served as Foreign Minister of Denmark from 1968 until 1971 in the Cabinet of Hilmar Baunsgaard. Hartling was Prime Minister from 1973 until 1975. In the chaotic situation with many new parties after the 1973 Danish parliamentary election his single party minority government commanded only 22 out 179 seats in parliament. Claus Jørgensen (racewalker)
Claus Jørgensen (born 15 March 1974 in Randers, Midtjylland) is a retired male race walker from Denmark, who was affiliated with MK Nørrevang during his career. His personal best time of 1:22:18 in the 20 kilometres road walk is the Danish record for the event. He made his first and only Olympic appearance at the 1996 Summer Olympics, where he was 29th in the men's 20 km walk. He also represented Denmark at the World Championships in Athletics in 1997 and 1999. He is a four-time participant in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships is a racewalking event organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. Jesper Just
Jesper Just (born 1974) is a Danish artist, who lives and works in New York. From 1997 to 2003, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He has work in museums including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Tate Modern in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Bjarke Ingels
Bjarke Bundgaard Ingels (; born 2 October 1974) is a Danish architect, founder and creative partner of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). In Denmark, Ingels became well known after designing two housing complexes in Ørestad: VM Houses and Mountain Dwellings. In 2006 he founded Bjarke Ingels Group, which grew to a staff of 400 by 2015, with noted projects including the 8 House housing complex, VIA 57 West in Manhattan, the Google North Bayshore headquarters (co-designed with Thomas Heatherwick), the Superkilen park, and the Amager Resource Center (ARC) waste-to-energy plant – the latter which incorporates both a ski slope and climbing wall on the building exterior. Since 2009, Ingels has won numerous architectural competitions. He moved to New York City in 2012, where in addition to the VIA 57 West, BIG won a design contest after Hurricane Sandy for improving Manhattan's flood resistance. Natasja Saad (31 October 1974 – 24 June 2007), also known as Dou T, Little T and Natasja, was a Danish singer and rapper. While already relatively successful in her native Denmark, her vocals on a popular reggae fusion remix of "Calabria" gained her worldwide fame and a number one spot on ''Billboard''s Hot Dance Airplay chart six months after her death in a car crash in Jamaica. Thure Lindhardt
Thure Frank Lindhardt (; born 24 December 1974) is a Danish actor, educated at the drama school at Odense Theatre in 1998. Life and career Lindhardt was born in Copenhagen, and grew up in Roskilde. At the age of 12, he got a part in Bille August's film ''Pelle the Conqueror''. His breakthrough in Denmark came with his portrayal of a boy with autism in ''A Place Nearby'', co-starring with Ghita Nørby. Tom Kristensen (poet)
Tom Kristensen ( – ), was a Danish poet, novelist, literary critic and journalist. Life and work Kristensen was born in London to Danish parents, but grew up in Copenhagen and was educated at the University of Copenhagen. Kristensen is considered one of the most colourful poets of his generation. His two collections of poems ''Fribytterdrømme'' (1920, "Freebooter Dreams") and ''Mirakler'' (1922, "Miracles") are classics of Danish expressionism, marked by revolutionary artistic enthusiasm and restlessness. ''Påfuglefjeren'' (1922, "The Peacock Feather") which is inspired by a journey to China, is deeper and more sombre, especially the poem ''Henrettelsen'' ("The Execution") that is depicting a man's intense powers of observation just before he is beheaded, which can be considered a modernist manifesto.
