Dutch Television
Television in the Netherlands was officially Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1951. In the Netherlands, the television market is divided between a number of commercial networks, such as RTL Nederland, and a system of public broadcasters sharing three channels, NPO 1, NPO 2, and NPO 3. Imported programmes (except those for children), as well as news interviews with responses in a foreign language, are almost always shown in their original language, with subtitles. Reception In the Netherlands, television can be watched analog or digital (the latter with the option of HDTV or Ultra-high-definition television, UHD). Over 2018, 89.2% of Dutch viewers received television digitally. Analogue television is only available via some cable operators and some fiber to the home providers, since the Dutch government ended analogue reception via airwaves in 2006. De Spelbrekers
De Spelbrekers (''The Spoilsports'') were a Dutch singing duo, consisting of Theo Rekkers (24 April 1924 – 20 April 2012) and Huug Kok (19 February 1918 – 27 October 2011). They were known for their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1962, representing the Netherlands. Career 1940s and 1950s Rekkers and Kok met during World War II at a munitions factory in Bremen, Germany, where they were working as forced labourers. They formed De Spelbrekers in 1945, after the war had ended. Their recording career began in 1950, and they released numerous singles during the decade, the most successful being "Oh wat ben je mooi" which reached #5 in the Dutch charts in 1956. Eurovision Song Contest 1962
The Eurovision Song Contest 1962 was the 7th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, following the country's victory at the with the song "Nous les amoureux" by Jean-Claude Pascal. The contest was organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Télédiffusion (CLT), and was held at the Villa Louvigny on Sunday 18 March 1962 hosted by the Luxembourgish speaker Mireille Delannoy. This remains the last time that the final of the contest was not held on a Saturday, as since 1963 the final of the contest has consistently been held on a Saturday evening. Sixteen countries participated in the contest – the same that took part the year before. The winner was with the song "Un premier amour", performed by Isabelle Aubret, written by Roland Valade and composed by Claude Henri Vic. Katinka (song)
The Netherlands was represented by duo De Spelbrekers, with the song '" Katinka", at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Luxembourg City. "Katinka" was the winner of the Dutch national final for the contest, held on 27 February. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1962 The national final was held at the Theater Concordia in Bussum, hosted by Hannie Lips and Elisabeth Mooy. Seven songs took part and the winning song was chosen by 12 regional juries, each with 60 points to divide between the songs. "Katinka" emerged the clear winner by a 28-point margin. Future Dutch representative Conny Vandenbos (1965) was one of the other participants. NOS Journaal
NOS Journaal is the umbrella name for the news broadcasts of the Dutch public broadcaster NOS on radio and television. The division of the NOS responsible for gathering and broadcasting the news is known as ''NOS Nieuws'', and is based at the Media Park in Hilversum; the NOS also has fully equipped radio and television studios in The Hague, from which political programmes are often produced. History On 5 January 1956, the Nederlandse Televise Stichting (Dutch Television Foundation, the forerunner of the NOS) broadcast the first ''NTS-journaal'' bulletin: initially, these were broadcast three times a week. Pipo De Clown
Pipo de Clown is a character created by writer and artist Wim Meuldijk, which became famous as the lead character of a popular early Dutch television series also written by Meuldijk, and which was subsequently popularized in movies and on records. The best-known of Pipo-actors was Amsterdam actor , who played the part in the television series from 1958 to 1968 and from 1974 to 1980. The regular Pipo cast often performed in theaters and for company occasions. Pipo returned to the mainstream in the 2003 movie ''Pipo en de p-p-Parelridder'', and in the 2009-2010 theater season with the musical ''Pipo en de Gestolen Stem''. Paul De Leeuw
Paul Henri de Leeuw (born 26 March 1962) is a Dutch television comedian, singer and actor. De Leeuw gained national fame in the late eighties and early nineties with television shows for broadcasting company VARA. Though satire was only a part of these shows and much of its humour was essentially harmless, he came into publicity with satire about Dutch show business personalities who were often ridiculed. Many obscure musical acts were featured in his shows, many of which managed to gain national fame after they had been in De Leeuw's show (e.g. Twarres and René Klijn, a former boyband member who contracted HIV). VARA has since continued his shows apart from a few interruptions, often with considerable success. In the early nineties, De Leeuw also had some shows celebrating the new year. Cornald Maas
Cornald Maas is a Dutch television presenter who has been known for presenting talk shows in the Netherlands. He is the brother of Frans Maas. Early career He was an editor involved in ''The Scream of the Lion'' (VARA) with Paul de Leeuw, ''Sonja on Saturday'' (VARA) with Sonja Barend and ''Rolling Fire'' ( NOS) with Philip Freriks and Leoni Jansen. Eurovision Song Contest In 2004 and 2005 Maas provided the Dutch commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals. He took over as regular commentator for the Dutch television in 2006 for both the semi's and the final after the regular Dutch commentator Willem van Beusekom stepped down and subsequently died the week of the contest from colon cancer.
