1958 In Italian Television
This is a list of Italian television related events from 1958. Events * 1 February - Totò makes his TV debut, as a guest to ''Il Musichiere''. He appears together with Vittorio Gassman and Mario Soldati. During the show, he cries on air: “Cheers for Lauro”. This was in reference to Achille Lauro, leader of the Monarchist National Party, who at the time of the airing, was accused of serious administrative irregularities as a Naples major. Because of this controversial reference, this very popular comedian would rarely be invited for RAI appearances in the following years. * 20 February - the journalist announces the closing of the state-controlled brothels. He uses cryptic language and never utters the term ”prostitution”. The episode has become emblematic of RAI’s prudish tendencies in this period. * April 13: in Milan, the experimental transmissions of the Second Channel begin. * May 25: first political election in Italy after the birth of the TV. Italian Television
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. According to the BBC, the Italian television industry is widely considered both inside and outside the country to be overtly politicized. Unlike the BBC which is controlled by an independent trust, the public broadcaster RAI is u ...

Canne Al Vento
''Canne al vento'' (; Italian for "Reeds in the wind") is a novel by the Italian author and Nobel Prize winner Grazia Deledda. After being published by episodes on '' L'Illustrazione Italiana'', in the period January 13–27, 1913, it was released as a volume by editor Fratelli Treves in Milan. It's considered the most notable work written by Deledda. The title of the book is an allusion to human frailty and sorrow, which was already found in ''Elias Portolu'', written in 1900: ''Uomini siamo, Elias, uomini fragili come canne, pensaci bene. Al di sopra di noi c'è una forza che non possiamo vincere.'' («We are human, Elias, as frail as reeds: think carefully. There's a force we can't defeat above us.») About the work Set in the barren lands of Sardinia, the novel involves the themes of poverty, honor and superstition. Early 20th Century rural Sardinia described in the book is still nowadays a combination of an apparently static society, related to millenary customs, and a la ...

Time Travel
Time travel is the concept of movement between certain points in time, analogous to movement between different points in space by an object or a person, typically with the use of a hypothetical device known as a time machine. Time travel is a widely recognized concept in philosophy and fiction, particularly science fiction. The idea of a time machine was popularized by H. G. Wells' 1895 novel ''The Time Machine''. It is uncertain if time travel to the past is physically possible, and such travel, if at all feasible, may give rise to questions of causality. Forward time travel, outside the usual sense of the perception of time, is an extensively observed phenomenon and well-understood within the framework of special relativity and general relativity. However, making one body advance or delay more than a few milliseconds compared to another body is not feasible with current technology. As for backward time travel, it is possible to find solutions in general relativity that allow ...
