Regular television broadcasts in the United Kingdom started in 1936 as a public service which was free of advertising, which followed the first demonstration of a transmitted moving image in 1926. Currently, the United Kingdom has a collection of free-to-air, free-to-view and subscription services over a variety of distribution media, through which there are over 480 channelsTaking the base Sky EPG TV Channels. A breakdown is impossible due to a) the number of platforms, b) duplication of services, c) regional services, d) part time operations, and e) audio. For the Sky platform alone, there are basically 485 TV channels, additionally 57 "timeshifted versions", 36 HDTV versions, 42 regional TV options, 81 audio channels, and 5 promotion channels as of mid-2010 for consumers as well as on-demand content. Shirley Dynevor
Shirley Dynevor (15 May 1933 – 10 January 2023) was a Welsh actress. Early life Shirley Teague was born on 15 May 1933 in Cardiff to Nancy (née Sutton), a nurse, and Hedley Teague, a landscape gardener. She attended Hereford Grammar School for Girls and afterwards worked as a rep in Pontypridd before moving to London. Career In 1953, she was invited to join the Theatre Workshop, where she would later meet her future husband Gerard Dynevor. Between 1953 and 1959, she performed in many productions with the workshop at Theatre Royal Stratford East including ''A Christmas Carol'' (1953), ''The Dutch Courtesan'' (1954), ''Richard II'' (1954) and ''An Italian Straw Hat'' (1955). In the 1950s, Dynevor had a starring role in the series '' Charlesworth''. Other television roles included ''Scotland Yard'', ''Armchair Theatre'', ''Family Solicitor'', ''The Liars'', ''Crown Court'' and ''The Wednesday Play''. Peter Jeremy William Huggins (3 November 1933 – 12 September 1995), known professionally as Jeremy Brett, was an English actor. He played fictional detective Sherlock Holmes in four Sherlock Holmes (1984 TV series), Granada TV series from 1984 to 1994 in all 41 episodes. His career spanned from stage, to television and film, to Shakespeare and musical theatre. Daniel Raymond Massey (10 October 193325 March 1998) was an English actor and performer. He is possibly best known for his starring role in the British TV drama ''The Roads to Freedom'', as Daniel, alongside Michael Bryant. He is also known for his role in the 1968 American film '' Star!'', as Noël Coward (Massey's godfather), for which he won a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination. Early life Massey was born in London in 1933. He was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. Barbara Knox
Barbara Knox, MBE (''née'' Brothwood, formerly Mullaney; born 30 September 1933) is an English actress, best known for her long-running portrayal of Rita Tanner in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She first appeared as Rita Littlewood for one episode in December 1964, before returning to the show as a full-time cast member in January 1972. Eric Chappell
Eric George Chappell (25 September 1933 – 21 April 2022) was an English television comedy writer and playwright who wrote or co-wrote some of the UK's biggest sitcom hits over a more than quarter-century career, first gaining significant notice in the 1970s. Early life Chappell was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and educated at Grantham boys’ central school. He worked as an auditor for the East Midlands Electricity Board for 22 years beginning in 1951, only becoming a full-time writer in 1973. He had written several novels which were rejected by publishers, before deciding to become a playwright. Career Chappell wrote the play ''The Banana Box'', which was given a staged reading at the Hampstead Theatre Club in 1970. Barry Norman
Barry Leslie Norman (21 August 1933 – 30 June 2017) was a British film critic, television presenter and journalist. He presented the BBC's cinema review programme, '' Film...'', from 1972 to 1998. Early life Born at St Thomas’s Hospital, London, on 21 August 1933, Norman was the eldest of three children of film director Leslie Norman, and Elizabeth Norman (née Crafford).''
