Monarchy Of Norway
The Norwegian monarch is the head of state of Norway, which is a constitutional and hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system. The Norwegian monarchy can trace its line back to the reign of Harald Fairhair and the previous petty kingdoms which were united to form Norway; it has been in unions with both Sweden and Denmark for long periods. The present monarch is King Harald V, who has reigned since 17 January 1991, succeeding his father, Olav V. The heir apparent is his only son, Crown Prince Haakon. The crown prince undertakes various public ceremonial functions, as does the king's wife, Queen Sonja. The crown prince also acts as regent in the king's absence. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Paper editions 1978–2007 The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Up until 1978 the two publishing houses of Aschehoug and Gyldendal, Norway's two largest, had published ' and ', respectively. The respective first editions were published in 1907–1913 (Aschehoug) and 1933–1934 (Gyldendal). Per Almar Aas
Per Almar Aas (11 June 1929 – 18 May 2014) was a Norwegian politician for the Christian Democratic Party. Life and career Aas was born in Ballangen. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Troms in 1973, and was re-elected on three occasions. He had previously served as a deputy representative during the term 1969–1973. On the local level he was a member of Harstad municipal council from 1967 to 1971. From 1971 to 1975 he was a member of Troms county council. He chaired the county party chapter from 1970 to 1973, and was a member of the national party board from 1970 to 1973 and 1985 to 1999. Outside politics he started his career as a manual laborer in Ballangen (1945–1950), Snåsa (1951), Ørsta (1951–1952) and Volda (1952–1953). Halvdan Ljøsne
Halvdan Ljøsne (31 May 1929 in Vågå, Oppland – 6 February 2006) was a Norwegian painter. He was born in Vågå. He took his education at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1949 to 1950, the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1950 to 1953 (under Aage Storstein and Jean Heiberg) and the Academie Ranson from 1953 to 1954. He worked as a lecturer at the Norwegian Institute of Technology from 1958 to 1967. He was then a professor at the National Academy of Fine Arts from 1967 to 1983, serving as rector from 1974 to 1977. He is represented with nine works in the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. He settled at Haslum Haslum is a district in the municipality of Bærum, Norway. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. Dag Frogner
Dag Frogner (29 May 1929 – 5 March 2015) was a Norwegian painter and scenographer. He was born in Modum, and was educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry and the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. He has worked as scenic designer at the theatres Folketeatret, Oslo Nye Teater, Det Norske Teatret, Den Nationale Scene, Riksteatret, Trøndelag Teater and Rogaland Teater. He also worked for NRK for 25 years, from the start of its television era, including for Fjernsynsteatret. Frogner died on 5 March 2015. Audun Boysen
Audun Boysen (10 May 1929 – 2 March 2000) was a Norwegian middle distance runner. Born in Bjarkøy and raised in Rissa, he first represented Rissa IL and later IK Tjalve in Oslo. Boysen was a prominent 800 metre runner in the 1950s, and he won a bronze medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics, a silver medal at the 1958 European Championships and another bronze at the 1954 European Championships. He set three world records over 1,000 metres, the last being 2:19.0 in 1955. The same year he ran 800 metres in 1:45.9, setting a new Norwegian record. Incidentally, the man who beat him in that race, Belgian Roger Moens Roger Moens (born 26 April 1930) is a Belgian former middle-distance runner. In 1955 he broke Rudolf Harbig's long-standing world record over 800 meters. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome he won a silver medal in the 800 m. Arnsten Samuelstuen
Ansten Samuelstuen (May 7, 1929 – August 18, 2012) was a Norwegian-born American ski jumper who competed in the early 1960s. Life and career Ansten Samuelstuen was born in Brøttum parish, in Ringsaker, Hedmark, Norway. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1954, he won three national titles in ski jumping, (1957, 1961 and 1962) and held four North American titles (1954, 1955, 1957 and 1964). He became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Samuelstuen finished seventh in the individual large hill event at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. His best career finish was 34th in an individual normal hill event in West Germany in 1963. He also competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics. Jorun Askersrud, later ''Nygaard'', also married ''Tangen'' (6 May 1929 – 12 October 2012) was a Norwegian cross-country skier and track and field athlete during the 1950s. She was born in Lunner, and represented the clubs Lunner IL and IL i BUL. In 1952 she finished 12th in the 10 km cross-country event at the Winter Olympics in Oslo and competed without reaching the final in 100 metres and 80 metres hurdles at the Summer Olympics. Norway had originally opposed cross-country skiing for women at their own 1952 Winter Olympics. She finished 17 in the pentathlon at both the 1954 European Championships and the 1958 European Championships. Her personal best times in her athletic Olympic events were 12.2 seconds and 11.8 seconds, respectively. In Norwegian championships she won 39 gold medals, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals as well as 9 relay gold medals between 1949 and 1961.
