Jón Hnefill Aðalsteinsson (29 March 1927 – 2 March 2010) was an Icelandic folklorist, philologist, and theologian. Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson
Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson (28 June 1847 – 23 February 1927) was an Icelandic composer best known for composing " Lofsöngur", the national anthem of Iceland. Early life and education Sveinbjörn was born in Seltjarnarnes. He was studying divinity when he met a young Norwegian violinist and composer, Johan Svendsen. At the time, Svendsen had just finished his studies in Leipzig and encouraged Sveinbjörn to go and study music, either in Leipzig or Copenhagen. Sveinbjörn went to Copenhagen, but later carried on to Leipzig where his teacher was Carl Reinecke. Consequently, Sveinbjörn gained a far higher level of musical education than other musicians in Iceland at that time. Career As the musical opportunities were limited in Iceland at the end of the 19th century, Sveinbjörn moved to Edinburgh. His composition pieces were mostly melody songs or poetical chamber music in the spirit of Mendelssohn. Sveinbjörn also composed a considerable number of folk songs. Later life and ... Ari Guðmundsson (14 September 1927 – 6 September 2003) was an Icelandic swimmer and ski jumper who competed in the 1940s and 1950s. Salome Þorkelsdóttir, sometimes transliterated as Salome Thorkelsdottir, (born 3 July 1927) is a retired Icelandic politician and first woman to be Speaker of the unicameral Althing. Before that she had been Speaker of the Upper House of the Althing. She was of the Independence Party. Biography Salome Þorkelsdóttir was born on 3 July 1927, in Reykjavik, Iceland to Þorkell Sigurðsson and Anna Þorbjörg Sigurðardóttir. She attended the Reykjavik Women's Gymnasium graduating in 1945. In 1947, she married Jóel Kristinn Jóelsson (2 January 1921–16 June 2007) and subsequently, they had three children. After raising her children, Þorkelsdóttir, served on the council of the Mosfellshrepps (Moss District) from 1966-1982.
