Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, the mainland territory of which comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Erik Rinde
Erik Rinde (17 March 1919 – 28 May 1994) was a Norwegian jurist who became a pioneer of social sciences in Norway. The social sciences witnessed an impetus worldwide after the end of World War II, but were little developed in Norway. From 1946 a group of researchers led by philosopher Arne Næss sought to improve this field of research. Rinde had graduated as a jurist from the University of Oslo in 1943, but had also studied sociology at the London School of Economics. He joined the group of Arne Næss, although he had a more administrative role. A son of businessman Sigurd Rinde, Erik Rinde had several contacts that proved valuable, securing the financing of early projects. In 1950, Rinde and Næss founded the Institute for Social Research. Other people involved were Vilhelm Aubert and Stein Rokkan. Rinde served as both managing director and chair for many years. Helge Seip
Helge Lunde Seip (5 March 1919 – 29 January 2004) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party and later the Liberal People's Party. He was born in Surnadal. At a young age he became involved in the Young Liberals, the youth wing of the Liberal Party. In the local chapter of Oslo he was a member of the board from 1937 to 1939, and deputy chairman from 1939 to 1945. From 1945 to 1947 he was a board member of their national organization. In 1948 he became a deputy member of the Liberal Party national board, advancing to regular board member in 1952. He continued in this position, becoming national party leader in 1970. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Oslo in 1953, and was re-elected on three occasions in 1957, 1965 and 1969. In between he headed the Liberal ballot in the 1961 election, but the Liberals had no MPs elected. In 1965 he was appointed Minister of Local Government in the centre-right Borten's Cabinet. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. It was published by Aschehoug with economic support from the state. bought the rights to NBL1 from Aschehoug in 1995, and after a pre-project in 1996–97 the work for a new edition began in 1998. The project had economic support from the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, and the second edition (NBL2) was launched in the years 1999–2005, including 10 volumes and around 5,700 articles. In 2006 the work for an electronic edition of NBL2 began, with support from the same institutions. Asbjørn Herteig
Asbjørn Herteig (15 February 1919 – 2 October 2006) was a Norwegian archeologist. He was the first curator at the Bryggen Museum and affiliated with the University of Bergen. Biography He was born in Hadsel in Nordland, Norway. In 1952, he took his magister degree in archeology at the University of Oslo. Through this work, Herteig was a pioneer in the field of Norwegian medieval era archeology. Herteig worked with excavations of Kaupanger on the island of Veøya. In particular, he was associated with the excavations of Bryggen in Bergen. Herteig was one of the co-founders of and organisers of Bryggens Museum. He also played a crucial role in the founding of Friends of Bryggen. He was decorated Knight, First Class of the Order of St. Olav in 1970. Until 1999, Herteig was director of the Bryggen Foundation (''Stiftelsen Bryggen''). From 1960 until his death in 2006, he resided at Christinegård in the Bergen neighborhood of Sandviken. Erland Steenberg
Erland Steenberg (11 February 1919 – 11 December 2009) was a Norwegian politician for the Centre Party (Norway), Centre Party. He was born in Nedre Eiker as a son of farmers Christoffer Steenberg (1888–1970) and Anne Severine Åsland (1878–1963). He was employed in the Norges Bank, Bank of Norway in Drammen from 1938 to 1947, and also worked as an auditor until 1968. He was a member of Nedre Eiker municipal council (Norway), municipal council between 1959 and 1967, the last four-year term in the executive committee. He chaired his county branch of the Centre Party from 1960 to 1966, and was deputy leader of the Centre Party nationally from 1967 to 1977 He was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Buskerud in 1965, and was re-elected on two occasions.
