Albert I Of Belgium
Albert I (8 April 1875 – 17 February 1934) was King of the Belgians from 23 December 1909 until his death in 1934. Born in Brussels as the fifth child and second son of Prince Philippe, Count of Flanders and Princess Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Albert succeeded his uncle, Leopold II, to the Belgian throne in 1909. He married Elisabeth of Bavaria, with whom he had three children. Albert ruled during an eventful period in the history of Belgium, which included the period of World War I (1914–1918), when most of Belgium was occupied by German forces. Other crucial events of his reign included the adoption of the Treaty of Versailles in June 1919, the ruling of the Belgian Congo as an overseas possession of Belgium along with the League of Nations mandate of Ruanda-Urundi, the reconstruction of Belgium following the war, and the first five years of the Great Depression (1929–1934). Léon Delacroix
Léon Frédéric Gustave Delacroix (27 December 1867 – 15 October 1929) was a Belgian statesman. Before entering politics, he was a renowned lawyer, and served as president of the Belgian Court of Cassation from 1917 to 1918. In the context of reconstruction after World War I, he was appointed the prime minister and served from 1918 to 1920. During his term, universal suffrage for men was enacted. The Algemene Spaar- en Lijfrentekas / Caisse générale d'épargne et de retraite (ASLK / CGER, ) was a major Belgian public bank, originally created in 1850 as a pension institution. 1919 Belgian General Election
General elections were held in Belgium on 16 November 1919. Although the Belgian Labour Party received the most votes in the Chamber of Representatives elections, the Catholic Party remained the largest party in both the Chamber and the Senate. Voter turnout was 88.5% in the Chamber elections. They were the first elections after the First World War, and the first with universal single-vote suffrage (for men), a change that was sought by and benefited the Belgian Labour Party. The voting age was also lowered from 25 to 21, and the system of proportional representation was modified to use apparentment (combining votes of different arrondissements within a province). Standaard Uitgeverij is a Belgian publisher, and the leading publisher in the Dutch language market of Flanders. History In 1919, the Standaard group was created, mainly consisting of a chain of bookshops (Standaard Boekhandel), a newspaper (''De Standaard'') and a publishing house, the Standaard Uitgeverij. By the 1930s, the different branches became more and more independent, but only in the 1980s was the group finally disbanded. Francine Holley
Francine Holley (23 November 1919 – 22 May 2020) was a Belgian painter. Biography Holley was an apprentice of painter Mathilde Du Monceau from 1937 to 1944. She studied at the Académie royale des beaux-arts de Liège from 1944 to 1945, and moved to Paris the following year. She then trained with André Lhote from 1947 to 1948 before she painted in the workshops of Fernand Léger, Jean Dewasne, and Edgard Pillet. She gave her first exhibition in 1953 at the Galerie Arnaud in Paris, and subsequently presented at numerous galleries in France and Belgium. That same year, she created a wall decoration on the casino in Le Pouliguen. In 1955, her drawings became more complex and she diversified her material. In 1962, Holley painted a mural at the entrance of the École Technique Aéronautique de Ville d'Avray following a request from Raymond Lopez. She then created a graphic design of the Dalle de Bobigny.
