Emile Vandervelde
Emile Vandervelde (25 January 1866 – 27 December 1938) was a Belgian socialist politician. Nicknamed "the boss" (''le patron''), Vandervelde was a leading figure in the Belgian Labour Party (POB–BWP) and in international socialism. Career Emile Auguste Vandervelde was born into a middle-class family in Ixelles, a suburb of Brussels, in Belgium on 25 January 1866. Initially attracted by Liberal politics, Vandervelde entered the Free University of Brussels as a law student in 1881. However, he soon became interested in emerging socialist ideas and, in 1885, joined the small Workers' League of Ixelles (''Ligue Ouvrière d'Ixelles''). In 1886, he joined the newly formed Belgian Labour Party (POB–BWP). He worked as an academic at the Free University. Robert Senelle
Robert Senelle (8 September 1918 – 13 February 2013) was a Belgian academic and constitutionalist. Biography Senelle was born in the at that time still quite Flemish north Brussels suburb of Schaerbeek, and grew up in nearby Vilvoorde. He studied law at the Free University of Brussels before starting a legal career at the Brussels bar. After the liberation, in September 1944, he progressed, becoming in 1946 a judge at Leuven and, in 1947, a Courts-martial magistrate. In 1949 he became an auditor at the Council of State, which gave him the opportunity to extend his network of contacts in the county's legal establishment. Achille Van Acker became prime minister in 1954 and Senelle, a fellow socialist, became his deputy chief of staff, progressing during the government's four year term to become chief of staff himself. Anton Van Wilderode
Cyriel Paul Coupé (1918–1998) was a Belgian diocesan priest, teacher, writer and poet, also known by the pseudonym Anton van Wilderode. Life Coupé was born in Moerbeke-Waas on 28 June 1918. He was ordained as a priest on 21 May 1944 in the Diocese of Ghent. He graduated in Classical philology at the Catholic University of Leuven. From 1946 until his retirement in 1982, he worked as a teacher in Sint-Niklaas at the St. Joseph Minor Seminary. Among his pupils were Paul Snoek and Tom Lanoye. He made his literary debut in 1939, with the short story ''Dis al'' ("This is all") in the magazine ''Nederland''. Georges Debunne
Georges Debunne (2 May 1918 – 21 September 2008) was a Belgian trade union leader. Born in Menen, Debunne qualified as a teacher, and worked in Halle, joining the trade union. After World War II, he was elected as full-time secretary of the civil engineering section of the General Union of Public Services, then as national secretary of its civil service section. In 1956, he was elected as president of the union. In 1968, he was elected as general secretary of the General Federation of Belgian Labour, and also as a vice-president of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. In 1983, he was elected as president of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). He retired in 1985, becoming secretary of the ETUC's Federation of Retired and Elderly People.
