Øistein Schirmer
Øistein Schirmer (11 April 1879 – 24 May 1947) was a Norwegian gymnast who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was part of the Norwegian team, which won the gold medal in the gymnastics men's team, free system event. He was born in Fredrikstad and died in Larvik, but represented the club Kristiansands TF. Ole Hallesby
Ole Kristian Hallesby (5 August 1879 – 22 November 1961) was a conservative, Norwegian Lutheran theologian, author and educator. Biography Ole Kristian Hallesby was born in Aremark, in Østfold, Norway. Hallesby grew up as the sixth of eight siblings on a family farm with a father also served as an assistant pastor. His family was from the Lutheran piety of the Haugean heritage. He graduated with a degree in theology in 1903 and was awarded his doctorate in 1909. Ole Kristian Hallesby taught at the Free Faculty of Theology from 1909 to 1952. He was chairman of the Norwegian Santal Mission 1902-1906 and chairman of the Norwegian Lutheran Inner Mission Society (''Det norske lutherske Indremisjonsselskap'') from 1923 to 1956. He was also central to the founding of Norwegian Christian Student and School Association in 1924. Karen Platou
Karen Platou (9 July 1879 – 10 June 1950) was a Norwegian businesswoman and a politician for the Conservative Party. Platou was the country's first woman to be elected Member of Parliament. She was born in Mandal, Vest-Agder, the daughter of treasurer Otto Michael Stoud Platou (1852 – 1903) and Ida Nanna Amalie Ræder (1852 – 1903). Among the many prominent members of her family were her uncle Christian Emil Stoud Platou, rail road director and Conservative politician, and another uncle Waldemar Stoud Platou, brewer and businessman. She grew up in Kristiania – today called Oslo – and received her education here and in Hanover, Germany. After finishing her education she started working as an architect, and also got involved in organisational and political work. Martin Tranmæl
Martin Olsen Tranmæl (27 June 1879 – 11 July 1967) was a Norwegian socialist leader from The Norwegian Labour Party. Biography Martin Tranmæl grew up on a middle-sized farm in Melhus, in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. He started working as a painter and construction worker. In the early 20th century, Tranmæl lived for a while in the United States where he came into contact with the American workers movement, and even though he joined the AFL, he was also present at the founding congress of the Industrial Workers of the World, whose revolutionary syndicalist ideology he continued to be influenced by after returning to Norway. Upon his return, he eventually joined Norwegian Labour Party where he soon became one of the main leaders of the Party's left wing and worked for many different socialist papers. Lilly Heber (28 May 1879 – 17 March 1944) was a Norwegian literary critic and historian, novelist and magazine editor. She was born in Gol to dean Andreas Emil Hansen and Anna Judith Sørensen. She graduated as dr.phil. from the University of Oslo in 1915. Per Reidarson (27 May 1879 – 21 January 1954) was a Norwegian composer and music critic. In the early twentieth century he was an acknowledged composer. For his body of work he was granted ''kunstnerlønn'', a guaranteed minimum income for artists, by the Norwegian state in 1938. He had also worked as a music critic in the newspapers ''Tidens Tegn'' and ''Arbeiderbladet''.
