Ellen Key
Ellen Karolina Sofia Key (; 11 December 1849 – 25 April 1926) was a Swedish difference feminist writer on many subjects in the fields of family life, ethics and education and was an important figure in the Modern Breakthrough movement. She was an early advocate of a child-centered approach to education and parenting, and was also a suffragist. She is best known for her book on education (1900), which was translated into English in 1909 as ''The Century of the Child''. Biography Early life Ellen Key was born at Sundsholm mansion in Småland, Sweden, on 11 December 1849. Her father was Emil Key, the founder of the Swedish Agrarian Party and a frequent contributor to the Swedish newspaper ''Aftonposten''. Her mother was Sophie Posse Key, who was born into an aristocratic family from the southernmost part of Skåne County. Maria Adelborg
Eleonara Amalia Maria Adelborg (December 6, 1849 – April 23, 1940) was a Swedes, Swedish textile artist. She is best known for preserving Swedish textile art traditions. Her works include the carpet in the Birgitta Chapel in Rome and the chasubles for the Sofia Church in Stockholm. Biography Adelborg was born in Karlskrona, Kalskrona to and Hadvig Katarina on December 6, 1849. Between 1886 and 1899, she worked for the Swedish Art Exhibition created by Selma Giöbel and in 1900 she worked for the Friends of Handicraft. In 1907, she retired from HV and lived with her sisters, Ottilia Adelborg and Gertrud Adelborg in Gagnef. She was a member of the women's association Nya Idun, joining in 1888. Martina Bergman-Österberg
Martina Sofia Helena Bergman-Österberg (née Bergman; 7 October 1849 – 29 July 1915)Westrin, p. 194 was a Swedish-born physical education instructor and women's suffrage advocate who spent most of her working life in Britain. After studying gymnastics in Stockholm she moved to London, where she founded the first physical education instructor's college in England, to which she admitted women only. Bergman-Österberg pioneered teaching physical education as a full subject within the English school curriculum, with Swedish-style gymnastics (as opposed to the German model) at its core. She also advocated the wearing of gymslips by women playing sports, and played a pivotal role in the early development of netball. Bergman-Österberg was an advocate of women's emancipation, directly encouraging women to be active in sport and education, and also donating money to women's emancipation organisations in her native Sweden. Anne Charlotte Edgren-Leffler, duchess of Cajanello (1 October 184921 October 1892), was a Swedish author. Biography She was the daughter of the school principal John Olof Leffler and Gustava Wilhelmina Mittag. Her brother was noted mathematician Gösta Mittag-Leffler. Leffler was initially educated privately and then a student at the ''Wallinska skolan'' from the age of thirteen, at that time perhaps the most progressive school open to females in Stockholm. Olena Falkman
"Olena" Ida Theresia Falkman (22 September 1849 in Stockholm – 13 September 1928 in Stockholm), was a Swedish concert vocalist ( alto). She was born to Carl Johan Falkman, a Swedish official at the Imperial Russian court in Saint Petersburg, and Sofia Albertina Peterson. Her parents were from Sweden, but she was raised in Russia. Olena Falkman was a student of the Italian vocalist pedagogue, Ronconi. Prior to her marriage, she toured Europe with the concert violinist August Wilhelmj. She was advised to contact Richard Wagner in Bayreuth, but she preferred to perform at concerts rather than to be an opera singer. She also toured Scandinavia with the violinist Joseph Joachim.
