Karel Ooms (27 January 1845 - 18 March 1900) was a Belgian painter of portraits, genre paintings and history paintings. He was also known for his Orientalist scenes and Oriental landscapes. Life Karel Ooms was born in Dessel as the youngest son of a large peasant family. At school his extraordinary talent for drawing was discovered. When he was twelve his hometown provided financial support which allowed him to study at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. Alexandre Joseph Artôt (25 January 1815 – 20 July 1845) was a Belgian violinist. Life He was born at Brussels into a musical family. His father was Maurice Artôt (1772–1829), first horn-player at the theatre in Brussels. His mother was Jeanne Catherine Borremans, from the musical family of Charles and Joseph Borremans. His father was born with the surname Montagny or Montaguey, but had adopted the professional name Artôt, which was preserved by all his children. Alexandre's older brother was the horn player , who later became the father of soprano Désirée Artôt. Alexandre received instruction in music and on the violin from his father, and at the age of seven played at the theatre a concerto of Giovanni Battista Viotti. Évariste Carpentier
Évariste Carpentier (1845 – 1922) was a Belgian painter of genre scenes and animated landscapes. Over the years, his painting evolved from academic art to impressionism. Alongside Emile Claus, he is one of the earliest representatives of luminism in Belgium. Biography Youth Évariste Carpentier was born into a modest family of farmers in Kuurne. He became a pupil at the Academy of Fine Arts of Courtrai in 1861, under the direction of Henri De Pratere. There, he obtained many distinctions. Albert I (8 April 1875 – 17 February 1934) was King of the Belgians from 23 December 1909 until his death in 1934. Xavier Mellery
Xavier Mellery (9 August 1845, Laken – 4 February 1921, Brussels) was a Belgian Symbolist painter. The son of a gardener at the Royal Palace of Laeken, Mellery initially worked with the painter-decorator Charles Albert. He attended the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels from 1860 to 1867, one of his professors being Jean-François Portaels. Alphonse-Jules Wauters (1845–1916) was a Belgian art historian, geographer, and magazine editor. Life Wauters was born in Brussels, Belgium, on 13 June 1845. In 1887 he became a professor of Art History at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and in 1894 a member of the Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium.
