Edward Law, 1st Earl Of Ellenborough
Edward Law, 1st Earl of Ellenborough, (8 September 1790 – 22 December 1871) was a British Tory politician. He was four times President of the Board of Control and also served as Governor-General of India between 1842 and 1844. Background and education Ellenborough was the eldest son of Edward Law, 1st Baron Ellenborough, and Anne Towry, daughter of George Towry. He was educated at Eton College and St John's College, Cambridge. Political career, 1813–1842 Ellenborough represented the subsequently disfranchised rotten borough of St Michael's, Cornwall, in the House of Commons, until the death of his father in 1818 gave him a seat in the House of Lords. In the Duke of Wellington's government of 1828, Ellenborough was made Lord Privy Seal; he also took part in the business of the foreign office, as an unofficial assistant to Wellington, who recognised his talents. Mahadev Govind Ranade
Mahadev Govind Ranade (18 January 1842 – 16 January 1901), popularly referred to as Justice Ranade, was an Indian scholar, social reformer, judge and author. He was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress party and owned several designations as member of the Bombay legislative council, member of the finance committee at the centre, and judge of the Bombay High Court, Maharashtra. As a well known public figure, his personality as a calm and patient optimist influenced his attitude towards dealings with Britain as well as reform in India. During his life he helped to establish the ''Poona Sarvajanik Sabha'', Maharashtra Granthottejak Sabha and the ''Prarthana Samaj'', and edited a Bombay Anglo-Marathi daily paper, the '' Induprakash'', founded on his ideology of social and religious reform. William Francis Thompson (1810–1842) was a British India civil servant, magistrate and philologist who was born in London, England, and died in Ghazipur, India. Biography Thompson attended the Haileybury and Imperial Service College before joining the Bengal Civil Service. He was first appointed as an assistant magistrate in Bareilly, and later served in Bundelkhand, Delhi Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India.
