Niccolò Circignani
Niccolò Circignani (c. 1517/1524 – after 1596) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance or Mannerist period. Biography Born in Pomarance, he is one of three Italian painters called Pomarancio. His first works are documented from the 1560s, where he painted frescos on the Old Testament stories for the Vatican Belvedere, where he may have worked alongside Santi di Tito and Giovanni de' Vecchi. He also completed altarpieces for Orvieto (1570), Umbertide (1572), Città di Castello (1573–1577) as well as Città della Pieve. He worked at Orvieto Cathedral with Hendrick van den Broeck, a brother of the sculptor Willem van den Broecke and a relative of the painter Chrispijn van den Broeck. He painted frescoes (1568) in the church of the ''Maestà delle Volte'' in Perugia, the ''Resurrection'' (1569 in Panicale) and an ''Annunciation'' (1577, now in the Pinacoteca Comunale, Città di Castello). Bolognese School (painting)
The Bolognese School of painting, also known as the ''School of Bologna'', flourished between the 16th and 17th centuries in Bologna, which rivalled Florence and Rome as the center of painting in Italy. Its most important representatives include the Carracci family, including Ludovico Carracci and his two cousins, the brothers Agostino and Annibale Carracci. Later, it included other Baroque painters: Domenichino and Lanfranco, active mostly in Rome, eventually Guercino and Guido Reni, and Accademia degli Incamminati in Bologna, which was run by Lodovico Carracci. Certain artistic conventions, which over time became traditionalist, had been developed in Rome during the first decades of the 16th century. Wen Zhenmeng
Wen Zhenmeng (; 1574–1636) was a late Ming Dynasty painter, calligrapher, scholar, author, and Chinese garden designer. Biography Zhenmeng was born to a very wealthy family in the city that is today known as Suzhou. He was the great-grandson of the very famous Ming Dynasty, Ming artist, Wen Zhengming (1470–1559), and also the elder brother of Wen Zhenheng (1585–1645), the latter of which was the author of "Treatise on Superfluous Things". From a very wealthy family, Wen Zhenmeng placed first in the highest level of the civil service exams. This brought him to a national level of importance within the political realm. In 1635, he was given the bureaucratic post of "Grand Secretary", which was notable as a most supreme position. Wen Zhenmeng loved to garden and his owgarden in Suzhouwas known as "Medicine Patch". Giulio Cesare Procaccini
Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1574–1625) was an Italian painter and sculptor of the early Baroque era in Milan. Biography Born in Bologna he was son of the Mannerist painter Ercole Procaccini the Elder and brother of Camillo Procaccini and Carlo Antonio Procaccini. The family moved to Milan around 1585 with the help of the rich art collector Pirro Visconti. He began as a sculptor in the Cathedral and in the Milanese church of Santa Maria presso San Celso. In 1610 he painted six of the '' Quadroni'', large canvases celebrating Saint Charles Borromeo. Among his many altarpieces are the ''Circumcision'' (c.1616) now in Galleria Estense, Modena, and the ''Last Supper'' (1616) for Convent associated with the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato in Genoa. Guillaume Dupré
Guillaume Dupré (1574 or 1576 – 1643) was a French sculptor and medallist. Life Dupré was born in Sissonne. He was initially trained by the sculptor Barthélemy Prieur, and in 1600 he married Prieur's daughter. They had a son, Abraham, who also became a medal engraver. Dupré applied his artistic skills into producing medals, in particular for Henry IV of France. In 1603 he was named ''Sculpteur Ordinaire du Roi'', and the following year was promoted to ''Contrôleur Général des Poinçons et Effigies des Monnaies de France''. Dupré's success continued, and in 1611 he was awarded the title ''Premier Sculpteur du Roi''. During his career he engraved medals for Henri IV, Louis XIII and the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV.
